Ribs @ Oasis with Suk Yee’s Birthday :)

Pork is one of Suk Yee’s favourite. When I was given the opportunity to scout for a place to celebrate Suk Yee’s birthday, all I Google-d for were “nice restaurant pork PJ” or “pork western bandar utama pj damansara”. Ribs @ Oasis is the most frequent hit results that I received. Suggested to the gang and they agreed. So pork meal for birthday it is

Menu of the restaurant. Me and Calvin reached early and we have plenty of time to take photographs of the place. It is a simple place I must say. Not much customers, could be due to the fact that the restaurant is located somewhere that is out of the main road. Only residence around Bandar Utama would have known about this place. The menu is quite simple and the food that they serve are western, with pork of course. Hehe.

Calvin was very hungry and the gang will be late as they finish work around 7pm. So, Calvin ordered a mushroom soup. It looks like those ground from mushroom and cooked with milk, I guess. Definitely not the canned type.

We ordered pigs in blanket served with coleslaw for appetizer. Taste wise, not bad I have to say. Would be better if the bacons contain small amount of fat among the meat.

We ordered a few mains to be shared. There’s the upside down burger, fish, spaghetti, lamb shank, pork belly and pork ribs. The pork belly tastes exactly like char siew. Very yummy and juicy of course. Besides the pork belly, we adored the mash potatoes. Soft and creamy. Taste really good even though without gravy. The portion of the food is quite big, so sharing is recommended. Besides, we get to eat more variety of food and people like me would like to try everything that sounds interesting in the menu at one visit. Definitely a good restaurant for good pork dinner

Sek Yuen Restaurant, Pudu–Shin’s birthday 2012

This is the first time in 2012 that I touch my laptop. I have been staying at Calvin’s place most of the time mainly because I won’t have to trouble my parents to send me to the lrt station in the morning for work and pick me up later in the evening after work. Since Calvin will be going to work and will pass by Kelana Jaya station every morning, I prefer to stay over at his place. Plus, my new room is too comfortable. I can just hide in the room the whole day during the weekend. Even though small, but every single piece of furniture in it is carefully arranged and assemble by me and Calvin. Most of the people might find the arrangement weird, but me and Calvin absolutely love it. Hehe.

At the end of 2011, us girls did something for Shin that none of us will ever forget, especially Shin. They have this idea of asking Shin to dress up nicely (in a really nice dress, hair do and make up) for her birthday dinner. The venue will be Sek Yuen Restaurant, which is a really old restaurant at Pudu. Food is good but everything in the restaurant, including the waiters and waitresses are very old. So imagine Shin looking all nice and pretty walking in the antique restaurant. Haha. First half of the dinner was fill with worry as we heard that Shin is kind of down when she learnt of the real venue. We were worried that she might be angry at us. When she arrived, we just laughed it off and enjoy our dinner.

This is the recommended appetizer which consist of all cold dishes. In the middle is the cold jelly chicken which some of us find it “exotic”. For me, it is still acceptable but just a little bit too cold. There are also baby octopus, prawns, abalone slice(I think) and jelly fish. The hard boiled egg for decoration is not recommended for consuming as we notice that it has been laying on the plate for quite some time before serving. Plus, the aunty that was sitting right in front of the plate might have contributed her saliva onto it. Hahaha…. jk jk.

My all time favourite duck! Dad used to bring the whole family for dinner at this restaurant every Sunday and he would order this dish. I love the sour plum sauce for dipping. Not too sour and goes well with the duck meat. It is hard to find good roasted duck in KL nowadays.

This is the stew lamb that we ordered for Deane. Poor thing wanted salted egg prawn but the chef won’t prepare it as if prepare wrongly, the dish will taste horribly. Good thing that the chef is honest. Anyway, lamb stew was quite nice although a little bit chewy.

This is called the crab stick but do not contain a single crab meat in it. Instead, it is consist of minced pork with some other ingredients. I had about 3 to 4 of these yummy cute little things. Hehe.

Deep fried fish with sweet and sour sauce. Not my favourite I have to say. A little bit hard as it may have been over fried.

Dad recommended the yam basket with diced chicken and vegetables. They gave us 2 baskets and generous amount of chicken and cashew nuts. Love the chicken but not the capsicum and nuts. Taste wise, not bad.

Green vegetable and overview of our table. There were around 15 of us in the big table filled with plates and plates of yummy food. They have to change some dishes into higher serving plate in order to fit all the dishes on the table. But we managed to finish all the dishes.

Cupcakes for the birthday girl. We sung the Cantonese Birthday song for Shin. I could hardly breath while laughing and singing at the same time. The expression on the customers from another table was priceless. We had fun that night. Too bad I have to work the next day, hence I did not join them for the second round.

Market Hall – Pavillion

My new room is finally done! I love the final outcome very much, especially at night when we turn on the lights. Super romantic and nice. Last week was one of the busiest week of my life. Me leaving the job in ING and joining Allianz on Friday, shifting furniture around for the installation of the new planks on the floor and installing the furniture in the room. When Pooh showed me the outcome of the room last night, it was all worth it. Other people may think that the room is too small, arrangement of the furniture is very weird or the furniture itself is very weird, but I love the room very much. Both me and Pooh plan the room on our own, scout for ideas from Ikea, went furniture shopping on our own and assembling all of them ourselves. In short, the room is our little precious that both of us build with our own hands. I can’t wait for our wedding day to arrive where the room will be decorated with red and white Plus, all my stuff will be there, which will officially complete OUR room

Not so long ago, us girls gathered at Market Hall in Pavillion to celebrate TW’s birthday. I ran out of place/suggestion for food recently and did not participate in food brain storming with them. It is good cause WL and TW gave a few really good recommendations that I will them out really soon. I have been to Pavillion numerous time but never heard of Market Hall. I don’t even know the exact location of the place when I arrived that day. I searched through the food directory and Market Hall is located on the 6th floor, near Din Tai Fung.

At first, from the name and the arrangement of table, I thought the place has the same concept with Marche; you order food from the counter, wait for the food and bring it to your own table. I was wrong. It’s the normal order-from-the-menu-type of restaurant. Love the long table for bigger groups. But my favourite table will be…

the one that we had that day. There were 6 of us meeting up for lunch that day and this table caught my attention. A square table with one side on the side of the wall. On the remaining 3 sides, there is a long and heavy bench that could accommodate up to 3 person. I prefer this table over the long table as it is perfect for talking to each other where everyone can see and listen to others perfectly. If we take the long table, those seated at the corner will have a hard time listening to the on going conversation.

I love the simple menu. They have set meals at RM39.90++ and pasta with soup buffet at RM29.90++. We ordered 2 set meals and 2 pasta to be shared among us.

This is the light appetizer that is highly recommended by bloggers, according to TW and WL. It is actually grilled thinly cut dough dipped with tomato paste. Even though a little bit touch, but I it.

This is the drink that I ordered, which I forgot the name. It is made of grapefruit, spring water and I forgot the last ingredient. It is written on the menu that this drink will give me beautiful skin. Haha. On the first few sip, it tasted really sour and awful. But after a few more sips, the drink was actually not so bad after all. Oh well, anything for beautiful skin right? Hehe.

Our appetizers consist of Market Hall Caesar Salad and Crunchy Spring Roll. It has been a while since I only consume Caesar Salad for dinner during my diet period (which reminds me that I have gained back the kilos that I have lost ). Some of us found a terrible smell coming from the salad but I assured them that it’s just the cheese/dressing. Nothing is wrong with the salad. The crunchy spring roll consist of cream and according to the girls, they are quite good. I did not try the crunchy spring roll as I don’t like to eat the popiah skin. Hehe.

For main course, we ordered Margherita Pizza and Chicken Roulade. The pizza is thin crust pizza, which I love. I prefer thin crust pizza over normal crust as thin crust pizza are not as filling as normal crust which leave plenty of space in my stomach for other food. The pizza was not bad but nothing to shout about. Chicken roulade is actually green peas and chilli stuffed into chicken breast. There is nothing on that plate that I don’t like, especially the mushroom. I am getting more and more in love with sauteed mushroom ever since I first try them at The Pink Sage for brunch with TW. Ahhh…. that was the most filling meal that I ever had and my first introduction to sauteed mushroom. Yummy

We also ordered 2 types of pasta which I totally forgot their name but the first one taste way better than the second one. This is also my first time trying wider pasta instead of the normal one. The second pasta with orange coloured sauce was too salty for us.

For dessert, we choose Crema Catalana and Ginger Panna Cotta. Among the two, the Crema Catalana tastes better. It is hard to resist the egg custard with the yummy caramelized sugar on top. For dessert, the Ginger Panna Cotta may come as a little bit too spicy.

Something happened during our meal which caught the attention of the owners of the restaurant. They were kind enough to give us discount on our bill as to compensate the “incident”. For me, as long as it is not in our food, then I am cool with it. But still, I am thankful for the discount given. Hahaha.

I-Don’t-Know-The-Name Noodle Place, Subang Jaya

There is a new noodle place in Subang Jaya with a really huge banner of a bowl of noddle at the front of the shop. It is something like this…

So can’t blame me for not knowing the name of the restaurant. From the banner, it is very obvious that the restaurant’s specialty is noodle.

This is what me and Calvin ordered. His is some sort of prawn noodle. The soup tasted like water that you just wash the prawns with. Yucky and awful. Mine is the special noodle in the menu, which I forgot it’s name. Along with the noodle are a variety of fish balls and cakes and don’t get me started on the thick and yucky gravy. The gravy is totally tasteless. Hence, the vague memory of the restaurant and it’s food. I nearly forgot to blog about it. Since I have the extra time now (waiting for my mum), I might as well ramble about it hoping to remember the restaurant’s name (which failed).

The only tasty food from the restaurant is…

The tau foo fah. Not the yummy-licious tasty but way better the noodles kind of tasty.

So, I think the owner should change the banner of his/her restaurant to tau foo fah instead. Hahaha.

Me and Pooh have bought all the furniture of our new room and hopefully will be assembled by next week. The wardrobe area is fully in charge by me, which means I get to make the sole decision on how it should be and where to put what. But of course I discussed with Pooh on how to make things convenient for us. Since he’s the designer, he might have better taste than me in certain areas. But I do have to admit that I am the more creative one, in terms on weird combination. At least he accepts my idea (and did a lot of modification to it so that it will become more presentable). As for other furniture, I just have tiny say here and there cause they are fully in charge by Pooh. I can’t wait to see the final outcome out my NEARLY-dream room. There is only 1 thing left on the list which is the ceiling fan.

I am still not used to addressing Pooh as my husband. We are legally married and recognized internationally (serious!! We have a special stamp at the back of our certificate for it). But both of us agree that we don’t have the married feel yet. Maybe we have yet to officially move in together forever and ever. Nowadays, I spent most of my time at his place and less at home. My sister and her adorable baby is staying at my house for her confinement period and the house has to be really quiet in order for the baby to sleep (so that she won’t cry out loud) and also my sister to rest after the operation. So it would be better for me to stay at Calvin’s place cause I am the noisy one. I just realized that I make the most noise in the house. Not verbally but everything I do is very loud, like opening and closing the door, doing dishes and even placing (more like throwing) the house keys into the key basket. Oh well, at least I don’t blame my Baby for barking so loud anymore cause if she don’t, she might not be heard around the house. Hahaha.

Edo Ichi, First Subang

There’s a newly opened shopping mall in Subang. There are several restaurants and pubs in the shopping mall that managed to pull in the crowds, be it weekend or weekdays. And of course, there is also my current addiction, Chatime. Hehe. Just opposite Chatime is Edo Ichi, a Japanese restaurant with revolving sushi belt.

Similar like Sushi King and Sakae Sushi, the coloured plates represent different price of sushi on top of the plate. Price wise, more or less the same than the chain sushi restaurant. But variety wise, Edo Ichi offers much more than others. Some that I have never seen before.

Was busy eating that night and ooh-ing and aah-ing on the passing sushi, managed to take only a few photographs of food. The tuna sashimi is Papa Pooh’s. He said that it’s very fresh. Pooh’s Unagi Don is nothing to shout about. The amount of rice may be a little miserable but the unagi tastes just fine. As for my meal, I have a sudden urge to eat fried udon that night. On the menu, this is the most interesting as it was served with mayonnaise. Halfway through, I raised the white flag and it was too filling. Yet, I still save a tiny space in my stomach for Roasted Milk Tea. Hahahaha.

Light meal from Wings Café

When there are a lot of choices of food to choose from, selecting the correct one is a headache task. But when they are limited choice, I will complain like there is no tomorrow. Pleasing me is very hard and I wonder how Pooh do it. Hehe.

SS2 is a famous place for food in PJ, at least near my ex company. Pooh use to drive around the area in order for us to choose one place to eat. When both of us are fed up, we would usually park our car at the parking lot whenever we see one available and walk to the nearest restaurant that we like. This is how we entered Wings Café for lunch not so long ago. There is one branch in Subang Jaya but due to it’s location, Pooh has never dine there before. He never knew of it’s existence till I told him there is one.

I visited Wings Café a few times but I can’t remember which branch it is. So I am unable to comment on the menu, whether they have improved or got worst. But the choices of food available are quite plenty and there are my favourite dishes as well.

My salad. I forgot what dressing that was on the salad but it’s sweet and very yummy. Unlike the normal mayonaise or thousand island dressing, the salad dressing on the salad was sweet and slightly sour. The bacon bits are my source of meat for the meal. I finished the whole salad on my own, with Pooh stealing bites here and there. He don’t like sour food but he loves the salad as much as I do.

Pooh hardly give up on butter milk dishes whenever the restaurant that we dine in serves the dishes. Be it fish or chicken, he will never say “no” to it. This time, it’s butter milk chicken rice with salad as well. I love the butter milk sauce and it is one of the best that I had so far. They give a generous amount of sauce that is enough for the chicken and rice. Yummy

Overall, I would rate the food and restaurant as good and good. This is also a good place for drinks and gossip with friends. Might suggests Wings Café for drinks with ex colleagues in the future since the office is just nearby.

Legally, I am Mrs Ng (or you can call me Mrs Pooh)!!! The registration ceremony went smoothly and I was very happy with the attendance of my beloved family and friends. I do agree I am thinking too much sometimes but Wai Leng is always there to make things right. Thank you

I am getting more and more excited for my wedding and extremely excited for my honeymoon!! Can’t wait for the day to arrive!!!

Hungry Hog

It is kind of hard to find western restaurant that serves pork as the main dishes around KL. So far, I only bumped into a few (less than 10). Lucky me, there’s one in Subang Jaya and it’s near to my future home. The name of the restaurant is Hungry Hog.

There are numerous pig related decoration in the restaurant. Simple and oink-y, I should say. I love the piggy bank with black sun glasses at the counter top. Haha.

We opted for simple drinks. Hot tea for me and orange juice for Pooh. The tea was served together with a small cup of milk, which I drank separately with the tea. Hahaha.

It was raining that night and I needed to eat rice to keep myself warm. So the Siew Yuk Rice (RM11.90) was for me while Pooh ordered Plain Jane (RM12.90) for himself. The siew yuk was very very good, better than most of the chicken rice stalls. Juicy and slightly salty at the end. But something about the rice that tasted a little bit weird. I don’t know how to describe the weird part though. Pooh’s pork burger was quite good as well. Served with salad and piping hot fries, the pork patty was very juicy. Love it!!

They have other special pork dishes as well and I will definitely be back to try the others. But don’t expect the menu to be big or colourful though. The food that they serve are very simple but yet yummy. For those who are on diet, you can opt for the oink oink sandwiches that they have. They do serve fried pork skin, perfect for those who want to gain weight. Haha.

I love the pig at the top of the receipt. Looks a little angelic, don’t you think?

Restaurant Hua Xing–my birthday dinner with family

I am those type of girl who always reminds my parents that my birthday is just around the corner every year without fail. And every year my dad will give me the same response, “Really ah?!?? Then I make you 2 red eggs lo”, without fail as well. This year he added, “Let me treat you for dinner. What do you want to eat?”. Yippie. Of course I opted for really good food and since it was with my parents, I can only go for Chinese food. Dad brought mum and 2 poh family for dinner a week earlier and I was unable to tag along. Hence I requested to dine there as mum said the food was really good.

The name of the Restaurant is Hua Xing and it is located at Sungai Way. The direction is very simple, turn left to Sungai Way from the Federal Highway if you are coming from Subang. As you go up the slope, there will be one row of shops on your left. Turn left at the end of the row of shops and there will be another row of shops at the back. The restaurant is at the 1st floor. There are several Indian shops at the ground floor.

Part of the menu is dishes where you can normally find at a typical chinese restaurant. The other part is the restaurant’s specialty and to me, those are really rare dishes, especially those that involves bitter gourd. I am relieved that we did not had any that night.

The restaurant and the chef are very famous and have been featured countless times on newspaper, both Chinese and English. Famous food shows like Ah Xian has visited this place as well. Me and Pooh may be the last people to know about this place

This is Hokkien Braised Pork with Alkaline Kuih. Unlike the Dong Po meat from Esquire Kitchen, the pork is served with a cold sticky tasteless kuih. I love the pork as it was stew until very soft and the sauce was just right. The kuih reminded me of mochi. Haha.

Fried Pak Gor has never been my favourite noodle all this while and this is no exception. But Calvin said this is very nice, better than the one that we usually have.

This is my favourite dish for the whole night. I finished nearly half of the plate on my own. It’s Thai Style Lady Fingers; which is actually lady fingers with shredded cucumber and some other things which I forgot, with sweet and sour sauce. Very yummy. Me like

I forgot what this is as this is not what Dad wanted to order initially. The boss explained that this is Fried Potato Flour Noodle (or is it Fried Tapioca Flour Noodle). I really cannot remember. Physically, it looks like Char Kuey Teow but the noodle is semi transparent and sliced thinner. Looked ordinary but it tasted very good. My favourite noodle of the night!!

I think this is Fried Spring Roll but I have no idea what is in it. All I know that this is very yummy as well. At least they did not stuff pork’s internal organ into it, where most of the fried spring roll that I had in the past do.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my birthday dinner but would be better if we have more dishes to go with white rice as I was really looking forward to try other dishes. We were lucky to get a table indoor as me and Pooh reached early. You can call to reserve a table if you come in a bigger group. Else, you will have to sit at the balcony.

I guess it would be better to have all the good food before my birthday as one day after my birthday is the big day!! I am excited to put the dress on as it is really very pretty

Not food related

There is no new food adventure over the past few weeks as Calvin has been very busy with the camera fair that his company organized. It was held in Sunway Pyramid and I tagged along for the weekend events. Main purpose was so that I could drink Chatime. I am addicted to Chatime, Gongcha and Snowflake. I guess I love the chewy consumables that each of them offered. Since there’s no food, let’s talk about pink items

My piggy bank. This is a present from my ji mui for my birthday. It has been a faithful coin pig to me for the past 6 or 7 years. I collect coins so that my mum can exchange them with my uncle from Ipoh who owns a coffee shop. This is also a method for me to save money as I don’t like paying my purchase with coins and don’t fancy carrying them around either as they weigh down my bag.

Bought some pink items from the shop in Times Square when I first started working in ING. The USB Fan is very pretty, noisy and it moves when I turn it on. But it’s very adorable. I bought another USB fan to replace this one and it’s pink as well. Haha. The pink earphone is very pretty but the quality of the music become bad through it. So, it is currently sleeping nicely in the drawer at office. The pink heart shape container is my travel contact lense container with a mirror, an empty bottle for the solution and a scapula to pick the lense up. Although bulky but it’s very pretty.

My pink accessories box that I bought for the 100 yen shop in Subang. I found this is a better way of keeping my earrings than in rack as it won’t collect dust. During my Bangkok trip, I bought quite a number of earrings where the left and right earring are not identical. I can mix and match among them. And sleeping in the box is the only watch that I own. I love bags, earrings and pink items but watch is something that I only need 1 in my lifetime. It’s a present from Calvin on Valentine’s day. I don’t really know how to admire/collect branded watch like IWC, Tag or Omega as for me, it only shows me the time. So one is enough and don’t have to be so expensive cause a RM10 watch will give you the same time of the day as the RM10k watch. Haha. As long as it's pretty and not bulky will be fine for me. But I am not against people who collect watch or prefer branded watch. Different people love different things. Just like I love bags but not everybody love bags the way I do… Hehe.

Some of the pink products that I have. I realize that pink products smell better than the non-pink ones. The sakura hand lotion (2nd from left) smell very nice. My hands are very dry and when it has reach the limit, my hands will feel very itchy. It is that kind of itch that will you cannot scratch away. This is when the hand lotion saves the day, besides smelling very nice. Hehe.

Pink items that are always in my bag regardless of which bag I am carrying that day. My pink handphone pouch with my Chinese name in pink as the key chain. Bought the pouch from Sg Wang and it provides my phone with a soft and comfortable environment to rest. If you look closely at the my chinese name, there’s an apple on top of it. Got this from my Taiwan trip. The bright pink bag is my sanitary pads bag. Nothing much to say about it except it holds different type of pads. Haha. The shimmering bag is my pink Harrods coins bag. I don’t like to keep coins in my wallet as it will make the wallet very bulky. Since my wallet is leather, I don’t want the coins to affect the shape so I purposely bought this coins wallet so that my wallet will remain pretty forever. Hehe. The pink umbrella is a present from Calvin. He bought it in Hong Kong as he knew I always wanted a pink umbrella from Espirit but I am not comfortable in spending RM50 to buy an umbrella. He bought it at a cheaper price in Hong Kong and this shade of pink is not available in Malaysia. Hehe.

My old handphone pouch and wallet. The pouch is no currently used to keep samples of shampoo and skin products that I got from Cleo magazine every month. I am not confident to put some skincare that I have never used before on my face because I am worried that it will give me pimples. The pink wallet is a present from Calvin for my birthday. I told him once that I really love the pink wallet cause it’s pink and few months later, I got it as my present. I changed my wallet to a new one. Even though it is black but I still love it very much. Hehe.

My pink gadget, all present from Calvin for Christmas and anniversary. The pink Nintendo is my favorite gift by far. Not only because I have been eyeing on one for the longest time, but it’s his effort that made me treasure this gadget very much. Calvin’s aunty gave me a pink Snoopy phone accessories but I match it with my Nintendo. Looks very pretty now. The pink iPod was chosen by me as anniversary present as I needed a music companion during work. Way cheaper than any other mp3 player out there with the same memory capacity.

The last item is something I wish I have. Calvin already have the item in black. Do you think he will let me change it to….

Fukuya Restaurant–Late Birthday Celebration

This was supposed to be a surprise dinner for Calvin to celebrate his birthday even though the actual day was few weeks ago. Since we went back to Ipoh for my grandpa’s birthday on the actual day and the following week both of us were still very exhausted from the pre wedding photo shoot, his big day was only celebrated over the weekend. Both of us love Japanese food, so I Google-d for a Japanese restaurant that we have never been to with a beautiful environment for a quiet dinner just for me and him. I am terrible in keeping surprise a surprise, especially from him. This time, I considered myself did a great job but something happened earlier in the evening at home that made him suspicious. Oh well, I will try harder next year. Hehe.

I choose Fukuya Restaurant after a few good reviews. The restaurant is located at Jalan Delima, near the Noble Banquet restaurant.

We reached the restaurant at 7pm and Calvin managed to take a few photographs of the interior and exterior of the restaurant. There are several private rooms for those who wanted more privacy for a small party. I love the small garden in the middle of the restaurant. There are several chairs near the garden for those who want to smoke or make a private call. I love the peaceful and quiet ambience throughout the whole dinner.

We ordered green tea whenever we dine in Japanese restaurant, without a miss. We don’t like alcohol drinks during dinner and the tea will not deviate the taste of our food.

Calvin ordered unagi set meal and I went for the tempura set meal. We were surprised by the portion of the meal, especially the appetizer and sashimi.

Our cold appetizer is consist of grilled scallap, lettuce wrapped with salmon, egg, some fish and prawn avocado salad. That was the first time me and Calvin tasted the fish. Instead of normal fish flesh, the fish was actually filled with egg-lookalike thingy all over the body. Acceptable for both of us as we ate the whole body. We were surprised that there’s no bone at all. The scallop with some special sauce was very nice. You can’t see it from the photo but underneath the shell is a small mountain of salt! Overall, I enjoyed the cold appetizer but a little bit salty for me.

Hot steaming chawan mushi!! The chawan mushi was very good as it was served still piping hot. The egg was very soft and melt inside our mouth. Yummy yummy!!

This is what impressed me the most for the set meal. 6 pieces of sashimi that consist of salmon and tuna. We did not share this as each set meal comes with one plate of sashimi. That means, Calvin can enjoy the 2 plates of sashimi all on his own!! That’s like 12 pieces of raw fish. BUT…. I decided to try a slice of each fish, just to be brave for once. Initially, it was very slimy and I kept on imagining that I was placing a worm in my mouth. Even though tasteless, but still a little bit yucky for me texture wise. I have to say that sashimi is acceptable at the moment. I have to get myself used to eating sashimi before my honeymoon. I can’t just look at Calvin when he enjoy the fresh sashimi while I have nothing to eat right??? Wish me luck and pray that my stomach can take it.

For my tempura set, I have an additional stew vegetables dish that consist of mushroom, carrot, lotus root and an unidentifiable crunchy thingy. I love the mushroom but overall, this dish was too salty for me. But, I finished the whole bowl of vegetable including the carrots. I am starting to accept bigger pieces of carrots from time to time for the sake of my eyes. Haha. Vain, I know….

Calvin’s much anticipated unagi arrived!! He commented that there’s a little stale taste to his fish but I think it’s okay. Although a little bit small but since we already had few types of appetizers earlier, our stomach was half tank when the main dish arrived.

My tempura set. I love the prawns as they were absolutely crunchy. There’s even a deep fried leaf which I push into my mouth without hesitation. Up to now, I still have no idea where did the leaf come from. There’s carrot as well, which I bravely chew and swallowed at a very fast speed. Haha.

The belated birthday boy with a big stomach that he hides with his arms. Hahaha. He still prefers Hajime’s food that we went for his birthday last year. Must be the stale taste from his unagi that turns him off a little. Hehe.

Our meal ended with super sweet rock melon. We stayed to chat for a little longer before head to Sg Wang as I wanted to get some belts. Unfortunately, the time spent stuck in the jam to and out from the parking area are more than shopping itself. Furthermore, the shops started to close for business at around 8pm!! Weird!!

The entrance/walkway to the restaurant which I love. There are private rooms on the left and right along the pathway. I definitely would be happy for another visit to the restaurant and try out other set meal with more dishes plus the ice cream that is not available that night during my visit.

Grandpa’s 80th birthday

The whole family went back to Ipoh for grandpa (mum’s dad) birthday celebration. Mum made reservations for 3 tables at Overseas Restaurant for dinner with close relatives only. Something happened that night and the guests left the restaurant with mixed feelings. I don’t feel like talking about it as it’s beyond my control. Me and Calvin just sat at our place and watched the whole “drama” as it happens. I can’t imagine that a small celebration like this could be so drama-ful. Hehe.

The dinner started off with Chinese Birthday Cake made by one of my aunty from Ipoh. She is very good in making bun and cookies. I love the bun as it was not too sweet and very soft. The restaurant charged us RM5 for each big bun that they help us to reheat. Very stupid right? The set meal that we ordered that night quite expensive for Ipoh standard, yet they still charge us for reheat of the bun. Cissss~~

Part of the dishes that night. If you ask me, I would say that the food was average. If you ask my dad, he will says that it’s terrible. Haha. I’m okay with the food as all of them were served still hot. Taste-wise, not too bad but then Ipoh is famous for really yummy and cheap food. It is hard to find yucky food in Ipoh, at least for me. Dad and 2 kong always bring me to the best food around Ipoh. From the best pork satay to the best taugeh chicken (and it’s not the famous Lou Wong). Oh yeah, the drama that we had that night was actually started by the chicken dish. Haha.

Sis and kau fu bought 2 cakes for kung kung because we’re not supposed to poke candles on the Chinese birthday bun. It would look very weird if we do. Haha. Even though Calvin’s birthday fell on the same day and William’s birthday was on the next day, only grandpa get the celebration as grandpa is higher in the family hierarchy compared to Calvin and William. But at least they get a big DRAMATIC birthday meal

I was lucky that my Ipoh wedding will not be held at the same Chinese restaurant because the restaurant really has a lot of problems. Firstly, the staff kept sending in the dishes right beside my sister. That is like the stupidest and most dangerous thing to do as my sister is heavily pregnant and all of the dishes were served hot. What if they hurt my sister and her baby?? Kau fu informed them like twice not to bring the dishes from that side. TWICE!! Damn annoying right? Another thing was they refused to help us keep the cake in the fridge because the manager said, “Our fridge’s temperature is exactly the same as the temperature in this room. So you can leave your cake here”. Stupid right? I’m 100% positive that the room’s temperature is not exactly as cold as any fridge. If it’s exactly the same, why not bring all the vegetables and meat and put it in the room instead of the fridge? Better still, why do you still need a fridge? Haihh…. this is what I call terrible service. Don’t make me start on the waitress that serve food but did not put any deodorant on!! My sis nearly vomit when the waitress stretched out to the middle of the table to put down the plate and take the empty plate. Hahahahahahahaha!!! I pity my sister very much that night.

Uncle Jang Korean Restaurant, Ampang

This is the restaurant that I often blogged about but it is in this post that the name of the restaurant is finally revealed. Not that I want to keep it a secret, but whenever I visit this restaurant I forgot to take a good luck at it’s name. Firstly introduced by Pui See few years ago for one of the jimui’s birthday, I craved for the food once in a while. From my first visit to the most recent one to celebrate Pui See’s birthday, there are a few changes to the restaurant.

They have an English menu. During my few early visits, there is totally no menu and we order based on what we know the restaurant serves. Dok-Galbi is the only food that we ordered on every visit. The only thing that we can adjust is the level of spiciness. We normally go for the normal as you can hardly taste and enjoy the food if it is too spicy.

There were around 10 of us that night, so we ordered 8 person’s portion of food. Cabbage, rice cake, chicken meat and sweet potato are cooked together with the special chilli paste on the big flat pan that is mounted on each table.

We do not have to cook the food on our own as they waiter with gloves who has strong arm cooked the dish for us. You will just have to sit back and watch the cooking performance. Well, the waiter don’t dance but trust me, you will stare at his cooking skill when he cooks as that is the biggest distraction for the whole dinner. Hahaha.

You can wrap the food in lettuce provided and free refills are provided for the vegetable. By wrapping the food with the letuce, you can reduce the spiciness of the food and at the same time cool down the food before pushing the whole thing into your mouth. The above photo is a so-called artistic shot by Calvin, while the rest of the photographs are blurred. Haihhh….

We tried something new that night as Shin, Jonny and Vince were the last to arrive and they were quite hungry. Pui See suggested to add plain rice to the left over and re-cook. Personally, I love the dish without the rice.

The birthday girl with the crepe that I bought from The Big Mouth Café. Even though not as good as the one from Nadaje but way better than Food Foundry. The red hat is a gift from the restaurant staff. Cute~

That’s all for the Korean Restaurant. Ming Li commented that the food was not as nice as it used to be but I still find it very delicious. After all, I have been craving to dine here for quite some time.

Suki-Ya

I enjoy visiting Tokyo Street in Pavillion. Most of the shops and stalls sell Japanese food. You can find bubble tea shop, mochi shop, restaurants, mini supermarket and Suki-Ya.

On my first visit to Tokyo Street, I wanted to dine in the restaurant because of the word Shabu Shabu”, which is the same as steamboat; my favourite food. Unfortunately, both me and Calvin were sick at that moment. We went back few weeks later for dinner.

On each table, there are paper that give customers tips and instruction on the correct way to enjoy the sukiyaki and shabu-shabu, including what can/be added into the sauce.

There are a few types of soups to choose from and we went for sukiyaki and clear soup for shabu shabu. The waiter was kind enough to bring us the first batch of meat. Only 3 types of meat are served; chicken, beef and mutton. The meat was thinly sliced which made them more convenient for cooking.

The buffet area. You can get the vegetables, processed seafood, various type of mushroom, egg, sushi and sauces from the counter. The fridge on the left is filled with trays of meat that you can take as many as you wish.

That was the first time we tried dipping the cooked meat into beaten egg. Besides cooling the meat down before consumption, meat eaten this way is actually quite nice. But you will feel yucky at the 10th or 11th piece of meat as you will start to feel full and yucky. Great experience though. Overall, I enjoy beef the most as I cooked them until medium well done. There are a few types of sauces to choose from but I totally forgot the name of the sauces. Hehe.

They do provide ice cream as well. This is Calvin’s artistic ice cream creation. I do have to say that the ice cream is too milky that the chocolate don’t taste like chocolate anymore.

Will definitely be back for another meal as I prefer meat slices buffet than fish ball buffet. I forgot about the price but definitely worth it. Do give this place a try, especially those who loves steamboat.

Nini Lai Dim Sum

When I think of Puchong, only 2 things will pop up into my mind; service car and food. Calvin always sends his car there for service and most of the time I will tag along. Whenever I have the chance to go around the area, I will pay extra attention on the food available. I used to love the conveyor belt buffet steamboat there but realised that the normal steamboat tastes better. But, they are still a lot of restaurants/cafes in Puchong that I would love to try. When Calvin made appointment for car service early in the morning, I went online to search for dim sum place around that area for breakfast. 2 restaurants caught my attention; Nini Lai & Yuen Garden Dim Sum. We decided to try Nini Lai first because of the name.

From the review, it is better to take the tables outdoor as is will be cooler than indoor. When we arrived, we were lucky to get an empty table as the place was fully packed on the next 5 minutes. Most of the customers prefer the outdoor tables.

The food available is just as same as the other dim sum restaurant available. Taste wise was quite okay, especially the Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun. I love the chilli paste that came along with the dish. Since there was only the 2 of us, those are the amount of food that we ordered and we barely finished all the food. Even though small, but every bite is meat = filling. Price wise, average I would say.

The most yummy and special dim sum that I have tasted so far will be at Dynasty Restaurant, Renaissance Hotel. I dine there last month and they offer really good dim sum. Did not take photographs as the meal was with Calvin’s parents. Hehe. Yummy and expensive but definitely worth the experience.

Little Korea BBQ Specialist

The shops opposite Sunway Pyramid are my current new spot to explore for food with Calvin. They do have several Korean BBQ restaurant besides quite a number of buffet steamboat like Yuen and Tasty Pot. We drove around the area to explore what food is available and Little Korea caught our attention as it is situated right at the corner lot with big signage. We decided to dine in for dinner over the weekend.

The owner of the restaurant is Korean, hence the Korean style oriented decoration. They have more seats upstairs and I think the customers will have to sit on the floor. We were given the normal table and chair seats that day. Lucky us

The normal sauces and raw garlic for the grilled food. I love the brown sauce as it was a little bit sweet and very appetizing.

Our side dishes. One thing bad about this restaurant that I can’t find in any other Korean restaurant around KL & Selangor is their side dishes do not come with unlimited refill. If I am not mistaken, only 2 free refills are allowed. Since there were only 2 of us that day, we did not ask for any refills because we have a difficult time finishing the food that we ordered. I love the steam egg very much because of the amount of spring onion on top of it. Hehe.

Unlike most of the Korean BBQ Restaurant, the smoke-sucking-thingy is not from the ceiling. Instead, the waiter will bring over a steel pipe and turn the machine on which will suck the smoke directly above the grilling food. Below the table, there’s a aluminum foil airway that will bring the smoke…. somewhere else. Hehe.

They do have set menu for 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 person. You can choose between 2 or 3 types of meat to be grilled, pancake, soup, noodle and others. Since we only wanted pork and chicken with kimchi pancake, we ordered them in ala carte. We figured out that the both of us will not be able to finish the set meal since I am on diet. Thank god we went with ala carte as we barely can finish the food that we ordered. I love the pork as it was not marinated at all. I usually wrapped it with the fresh vegetable provided with a small amount of sauce. Other than that, we ordered one portion of marinated chicken, which was quite good. Both of us were disappointed with the kimchi pancake as it was very oily. The best we had so far (both of us don’t eat kimchi…. at all) was from Daorae, Sri Petaling. I had dinner with the girls at Daorae, Kota Damansara last night and the one at Sri Petaling is still the best. Rachel said there’s one Daorae at Ipoh as well. Naise…..

Anyway, that’s all for the Korean BBQ update. It shall be the once in a while indulgence as it is expensive and you will always end up smelling like BBQ when you walk out of the restaurant. So the only time that I will have Korean BBQ is when I’m sure that after dinner I will head for drinks in an open area like Giza Mall or head straight back home. I don’t even feel like shopping with the BBQ smell all over my body.

Wai’s Steamboat

No, that is not the name of any restaurant that I have been to recently. It is actually me and Calvin buying the steamboat ingredient and cook it on our own at my place. I love steamboat (I must have emphasize that hundreds of time in this blog), and what would be better than eating at home with the tv and air conditioner on? We went to the raw food shop that sell all kinds of frozen food for steamboat and bbq. Even though only me and Calvin will be enjoying the steamboat, but we bought the food enough to feed like 5 to 6 people.

The uncle introduced us to the steamboat set where it contains assorted processed food like crabstick, meat balls and other type of balls. By right, we should have just buy this and the soup stock. But we end up with…

A whole table of food. We have fried bean curd, bacon, seafood beancurd, enoki mushroom, one packet of meat balls, one packet of fish balls, yee mee and eggs. OMG!!! Looks like very little but we can barely finish half of the food. Luckily we’re at home so we can just keep the remaining in the fridge. For the soup, we bought 3 packets of ikan bilis stock but we only used two. I prefer this over chicken stock as it is not too salty. After cooking the steamboat ingredients, the soup was just fine to be consumed; not too salty nor blant.

But, my task as a chef did not end there. The next morning, I woke up early like a good wife would do and cook breakfast while the lazy Pooh is still in the bed sleeping.

He loves American breakfast. So I made him baked beans, sunny side up egg with bacon. The other plate of bacon with tomato omelet was mine. Although look a little bit yucky but they taste quite good.

But being a good wife is a little tough as it requires waking up early on the weekend. Maybe I should just be a normal wife. Can or not, Pooh? Hehe.

La Gomera

Buffet should not be part of my diet from now until my wedding day. But I can’t resist from purchasing this deal from Groupon for the La Gomera buy 1 free 1 deal from La Gomera which serves Italian buffet. I read so much good review about this place. Unlike the typical buffet where they have a variety of cuisine to choose from, La Gomera specializes only in Italian food.

Me and Calvin purchased the deal and went there for dinner the following Friday. The place is at Mutiara Damansara. This is a really good place for food and gathering with friends. Sadly, due to it’s location which can be hardly seen from the main road, the business is a little slow.

We were the first 2 customers for dinner and I was very happy when the waiter agreed for us to take photographs of the food and place. The food was still nicely and neatly arranged when we took the photographs.

The drinks bad. There the coffee maker for coffee, milo and milk tea and teh tarik at the end; soft drink dispenser for Coke, Sprite and other; fresh fruits; watermelon juice (my favourite); ice lemon tea, peach tea dispenser on the other end. I was quite surprised by the selection of drinks available. Each customer will have an empty glass on their seat which they can use it for the drinks, except for the hot drinks where mugs are provided next to the machine.

That will be the appetizer bar. They are a wide selection of tapas. If I’m not mistaken, tapas is actually food served on top of a slice of bread. Not the Gardenia type of bread but those long bread. Unlike most buffet, the seafood especially prawns served here are very fresh. My favourite tapas will be mushroom!! I had three of them while the others only 1. That is how much I love my mushroom. Hehe.

The stew section. They have chicken, fish, beef, mutton and meat balls. I am not a big fan of stew food because they are usually cooked until too soft. I only tried the mutton, which was not bad.

There is an alley on the side of the restaurant which leads to the open kitchen. On the table top are names of food that you can order from. They have a wide selection of spaghetti, pizzas and grilled food.

On each table are clips with the number of you table on it. To order food from the open kitchen, the customer will need to drop the clip on the bowl with the name of the food that they want. The chef will then prepare the food and serve it to you. In such way, the food are usually served when they are still hot and yummylicious. It is also a great way to save food from being wasted. No point cook and just display it there if nobody is interested to take it since the food is already cold. Besides, which so many types of pastas and pizzas to choose from, it would consume a lot of space to display all the food, right? Hehe.

The dessert section. The mango pudding was really good. Not too sweet, me likey. They have ice cream as well, which me and Calvin did not take at all because we were really full at the end of the dinner that we only took mango pudding as dessert.

Below are SOME of the food that we had. Most of them were really good. I think I can eat their tapas for the whole dinner. Hehe. Really yummy. We took a little of nearly everything and shared it. Seriously, if you take one small portion of every type of dishes that they have, your tummy will explode. Too much to choose from until you have no idea where to start.

There are still a lot of food that I forgot to take photographs. Even though the open kitchen food portion is small, but I think it would be perfect for those who would like to try a little of everything. After that, you can dump all your clips on the food that you like the most. Haha.

I really hope to go back to the place again. I guess Wai Leng would leave this place as she love to try different kind of food at the same time and place. Maybe I can suggest this place for our next gathering. Hehe.

My wedding is getting nearer and nearer but I have yet to start my planning. I am still very busy with work (stressed to the infinity) during the day and planning for my wedding and honeymoon at night. Oh… please save me!!

2nd Year Anniversary

28th July means a lot to me. This year, 28th of July will be the exactly 1 year after I left AAN, my first company after graduate from university. Learnt a lot from the company and met a bunch of great friends. I still keep in touch with them every now and then, especially during the weekends.

28th of July is also me and Calvin’s anniversary. Since we are getting married and there’s a lot of expenses that we need to pay, I told Calvin that I don’t want flower this year. Instead, a simple dinner will do. I told him twice and I really mean it. Imagine the surprised that I received when I was working and suddenly someone came into my office and looking for me. I was sitting at Joey’s place to do some testing. When I heard my name being called, I looked up and saw a man carrying…

A bouquet of gorgeous blue rose!! I was really shocked at that moment that I asked Joey “For me ah??” a few times before that man reached my working station. They look amazing and beautifully wrapped. Calvin brought it from Cheryl working place and requested for early delivery (before my lunch time). I was very happy that I can’t stop myself from smiling during work. I called Calvin once I finished my testing to thank him.

He insisted to pick me up from work, which is kind of weird at first but I thought he don’t want me to carry the bouquet of roses and take the monorail after work. The crowded passengers might squashed my bouquet roses into rose petals when I got off the station.

Once I got into the car and thanked him again for the roses, he reached into the right side of his seat and gave me the 13th rose..

The perfume that I have been searching high and low at KL!! I received a sample while walking along Orchard Road, Singapore during my trip there. I fell in love with the scent immediately and told Calvin about it. Sadly, it is not on sale yet in Malaysia. My nice Pooh asked Sai Fong for help as she has a lot of friends from Singapore and one of them travel back to KL quite often. I was really happy when I received the present. That is so sweet of my Pooh.

Took a few photographs with the beautiful bouquet when we reached home. We have decided to have our anniversary the next day as both of us were on leave on the 29th. It’s the date where we select the gowns for our pre-wedding photo shoot.

I don’t have the photographs of the gowns that I have selected because they don’t allow photographs to be taken. I only have 1 which Calvin took really quick when nobody was looking. I can’t reveal it yet. Just have to wait for my wedding day next year where my guests will be able to see them during dinner

After choosing the wedding gowns, we went back to change and Pooh drove me to Bangsar. He was being very secretive about the place. He won’t let me know the name of the restaurant (which I will definitely Google about it) and even the type of cuisine that we will be having. I respect his request for me not asking too much but just follow him. He always has this great plan for our special day and my birthday.

The name of the restaurant is Opus Bistro at Bangsar. The place is very lovely and perfect for a quiet dinner with your loved ones. The waiters and waitresses are very nice and they provide perfect service to each and every customers. It is also the place for drinks on weekend nights with friends where gossip/talking/chatting occupies 90% of the outing. Just not too loud as you might disturb the lovebirds at the table next to you. Hehe. They have a variety of wine from all over the world to choose from. Me and Pooh is more to juice people so we ordered juices instead of wine.

Free appetizers are provided. Bread dipped with olive oil and vineger. Our first try of eating bread this way. I love it as I love sour food but Calvin finished his bread just as it is cause he don’t really like sour food. The bread was served still warm and quite good even though you eat them without dipping on the sauce.

We shared the seafood soup. The nice waitress was kind enough to ask us if we would like the chef to separate the soup into 2 bowls before serving. This is actually the first time we were asked such question. Very considerate for those who would love to share a bowl of soup without even have to pass the soup to the other person from time to time. The soup is made from tomato base and contains a 2 fresh prawns, 2 mussels, clams and squids. I love it as the I can actually taste the seafood from the soup itself. Not to mention that the seafood was really fresh.

Calvin had lobster with steak while I ordered cod fish as our main. Calvin preferred my cod fish over his lobster and steak as the fish was really good. Sweet and fresh. Went well with the vegetables and sauce. This was also my first time eating olives. I don’t eat olives previously as they are bitter (mainly found them in pizza and pasta). I separated out a few initially but decided to give it another try. I ate them together with the fish and it was actually not bad after all. It’s a little bit salty and went quite well with the fish. I managed to persuade Pooh to try too! Just like me, he can accept the taste but would prefer to enjoy the sweetness and freshness of the fish. I finished the whole plate all by myself including the carrots. Pooh’s steak and lobster was quite good. Maybe I was on diet currently, so I don’t go crazy over steak anymore. I used to order steak or lamb whenever I have the chance. Now, I prefer seafood and I have got myself used to it as I only went through the seafood section on the menu. Haha.

We shared a dessert that was highly recommended by the bloggers and even the waitress herself. It’s hot chocolate pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We waited for quite long for the desserts but it was all worth it. As we enjoyed this heavenly dessert, we realised that this dessert is actually made during order. When we cut the puff into half, steaming hot chocolate flow out. Really good. Perfect for sharing after dinner. But both me and Pooh still agrees that the chocolate pie at Café Café is still the best dessert that we had, to date.

My most handsome Pooh that never fails to surprise me with all the good stuffs for our special day. The effort and research that he put in for us to celebrate and enjoy this wonderful day is the best present that I could ask for. Thank you so much, Pooh. I Lap Eu

Home Cook Food by ME!!!!

I WAS a terrible cook, according to my dad. Haha. I used to cook dinner for the family back in secondary school and early college years as I always reach home earlier than my mum. I can only cook the simple dishes like boil some vegetable soup, pan fried fish and vegetables wok fried with garlic. Either my cooking was really terrible or my mum cooking is really good as my dad could tell who was the cook for dinner by the first bite. Mum always complained that I never put “heart” into my cooking. Can’t blame me as for me, the purpose of cooking is just to make the raw food cook and edible. Maybe I got the “cook” part correct but barely making it to the “edible” part. But in my history of cooking, there are no food poisoning or whatsoever. Only a few encounters of burnt food. Haha.

Since me and Calvin are tired of eating outside, I suggested to have a home cook dinner by me, since my parents was away for the weekend. I have the whole kitchen for myself. I have warned Calvin earlier about my skill but the “brave” Pooh agreed to my plan anyway. The night before, we went to Carrefour for shopping. We bought a fish, vegetable and soup ingredients. Fish was choosen by Calvin while others were by me. Let’s start!!

Calvin’s favorite soup is actually lou wong gua soup. I asked mum the night before about the main ingredients and method of cooking. She said spare ribs are better than chicken as it will make the soup more “fragrant”. So we bought spare ribs and lou wong gua. After cutting the melon into half, we noticed that there might not be much “flesh” left after scrapping out the seeds but mum said the seeds are not edible. The “smart” us figured out that the “flesh” will “inflate” after cooking. Oh well…. I added dried scallops and dried sotong into the soup because those are what mum always add in.

The final product of my soup. I cook it exactly the way my mum teach me. Maybe the melon was a little bit “skinny” as it kind of “melted” into the soup instead of “inflate”. Haha. Calvin said the taste was there but lack of something. My sis who came by the house earlier don’t even dare to try the soup. I don’t blame her as it is for the safety of her baby. Haha. I love the inventor of induction cooker as it made my life easier. Put it on “High” mode, went to watch Transformers and when I’m back, the content of the pot already starting to look like soup. Hehe.

The choosen fish by Pooh himself. He love the fish very much. He said it was nicely cooked. Yay!! Looks quite nice. We wanted to have chicken chop with lou wong gua soup, both are Calvin’s favorite dishes. But both of us totally have no idea on how to marinate the chicken. Hahaha. So fish it is.

The vegetable of the night. Looks a bit normal but actually it is kind of dry. Even though I pour some water during cooking but when I scooped the vegetable into the plate, there’s no gravy/broth/water or whatsoever at all. Luckily it still taste normal. I guess if I could ever mess this up, I should not be allowed anywhere near the kitchen at all OR I should think of becoming a man. Hahahahahahaha.

I guess mum is a little bit worried that I might burnt all the food and end up with nothing to eat. She called me the day before to inform me that, “I bought you chicken feet with mushroom and put it in the fridge. Just reheat it for tomorrow’s dinner ya”. Hahaha. I love this dish very much, especially the mushroom. I know it is unhealthy to eat chicken feet, that is why I always ask mum to put more mushroom and little chicken feet.

So that’s my simple dinner cook with “heart” for my Pooh. I guess I scored quite high with the fish. Next challenge shall be chicken chop and mushroom soup(I will try to make it from scratch, instead of using the canned mushroom soup, but will still buy one as a back up in case my “natural” mushroom soup fails).

Kobe Gyu Taku–1 and only visit….

Groupon, MyDeal and Milkadeal are websites that I will visit everyday. Besides viewing the current deals, I can also read reviews about the restaurants that I have never been to. Recently they have holiday packages that are quite cheap. I don’t mind to receive one as my wedding gift. Be it cruise to Phuket or hotel stay in Penang, I would really need it.

But last week, I was very disappointed with the deal that I bought for Japanese Grill at Subang Jaya. Me and Calvin bought the deal few weeks ago and decided to use it last Saturday. We have 2 vouchers for individual grill items. Calvin’s parents tagged along as well.

The name of the restaurant is Kobe Gyu Taku Yakiniku. I hope that is the correct name as I really can’t find any other words at the signboard that could be the restaurant’s name. Our table was on the first floor. Luckily we were given the normal table and chairs instead of seating on the floor as I was wearing a skirt and high heels that day. The floor seats will be a little bit uncomfortable as after a while, I will get buttock pain due to the hard surface. Haha.

Let’s start with the only plus point about this place before I start complaining.

The individual set consists of chicken and 2 types of beef where one of them is Kobe beef. Two long fork-thingy were provided at each table for the grilling process. The meat was very fresh and lightly marinated, so you could actually still taste the meat instead of only the sauce. When you flip the meat over, there will be the “grill mark” on the meat which makes it really nice and pro looking. Me like… hehe. Since there were 4 of us that night, aunty ordered sushi and unagi as well. The 2 individual set was quite small portion, to be honest. That’s practically it about the good thing about the restaurant.

As for the bad points, which really pissed me off:-

1. Their service was very super terrible. When we wanted to add extra order, there was no waiter/waitress around that could assist us. We waited around 5 minutes before a waitress quickly rush by our table. Request for green tea refill was super ultra slow. Even though the meat was served raw and no cooking required, it took them forever to serve us the meal. Everything that we requested was super extra slow except to bring us the bill.

2. While waiting for our 2nd round of raw grill meat to arrive, a staff (who both me and Calvin agreed that he is the chef) walk to the left side of our table and notice that the gas was still on and there was only a piece of meat on top of the grill. Without even asking or looking at us, he went to the other side of the table and turn off the stove. I was like….. WTF!!! Damn rude okay!! He should have ask “How’s the meal? Do you need any extra order?” or stuff like that. None of the above and just switch off our stove. We did not even indicate that we are done with the meal and ready to go home.

3. There is nothing to suck out the smoke from the grilling process at all. NONE!! OMG!! I nearly choked to death from the smoke. Luckily we were the first few customers, hence the only smoke around our area was from our table. I cannot imagine what it would be like when the restaurant is full of people. It would be very uncomfortable to dine there.

4. Since we ordered sushi, Calvin and Papa Pooh requested for Japanese Soya Sauce and wasabi when the waitress serve the sushi. First of all, she did not bring the soya sauce with the sushi and there’s none on the table. Does she expect the customer to eat the sushi dipped with yakiniku sauce?? She returned with a plate of soya sauce mixed with wasabi and said “I have mix the soya sauce and wasabi for you, so no need to bring 2 separate sauce plate lah”. Like hello?!?!? Damn lazy to wash the sauce plate is it? We never request for soya sauce and wasabi mixture okay. We requested both but in separated form. And the amount of wasabi in the mixture is very little that Pooh and Papa Pooh have to add additional wasabi into it. Seriously…..

5. I was ready to let go of the bad eating environment and service as the meat was good. But when the bill arrive, I vowed never visit this restaurant again as what they advertise on Groupon is a BIG FAT LIE! When we purchased the voucher, it clearly stated “Takumi Special Mori Set from Kobe Gyutaku Japanese BBQ Restaurant worth RM113.70”, which we paid around RM45 plus for one voucher. Imagine the horror when it clearly stated on the bill that the Special Mori Set is actually RM38 (plus minus… can’t remember) per set. Either they have Maths problem or they have issue with being honest to customers. Because that is pure cheating okay. Why is the voucher more expensive than ordering from the menu? And when we place our order, at least the waitress can inform us to add extra order like rice or green tea to make the voucher worth. But no, they didn’t say a word. I can accept the portion is small so that the customer will order extra food but then cheating is totally unacceptable. Luckily we ordered extra so that the remaining amount can be used to deduct the extra order. It’s like total bill around RM200 plus and our vouchers worth RM90 was just directly deducted from the amount and we pay around RM110. I was damn pissed off and smelling like a BBQ beef at that time, so I didn’t bother to question/argue with the waitress. Treat that as a lesson; next time check the menu price/blog review on the price before purchasing any vouchers.

There… 1 good point and 5 terribly bad points which made me and Calvin vowed never ever visit this restaurant again.

Angry Birds @ ING

What did you do last Saturday during the Bersih Walk? Me and Calvin was stuck at home the whole day as we were not allowed to leave the house. We came out with a bunch of silly and fun things to do:-

1. Check MalaysiaKini website from time to time for the updates about the Bersih thing. The updates started as early as 7 something in the morning and quite updated with YouTube videos as well.

2. Name 10 songs from famous singers. It all started with the 4 Heavenly Kings excluding Aaron Kwok as Calvin can name like 30 of his songs where half of it I might never heard before. It was fun as we have to sing part of the song as well. For JJ, we have to name 20 songs as both of us listen to nearly all his songs. Haha. A great time wasting “activity”.

3. Grocery shopping (well, this was on Sunday) at Jusco Taman Maluri. Nearly bought raw food like chicken meat to cook as our lunch but I have no idea on how to marinate the chicken. Bought sushi and fried chicken instead. Next mission is to find recipe for yummy food and try cooking it myself. I shall never let my skin-less fried fish haunt me forever!!!

4. Clean the house, especially my room. Nothing much to clean actually since Calvin helped me arrange my bags nicely every time he’s here. Haha.

5. Count the amount of coins I have and put them back into the piggy bank again. Calvin even took “artistic” shots of my coins.

My piggy and bear bank. The tiny pink bear is my birthday present and have been with me for many years. Very cute. I used to have a big bear coin box. Mum accidentally broke it when she wanted to count the amount of coins I have in it. Can’t blame her because I stuffed the whole bear with a lot of coins till it was very super heavy. Hehe.

Some random food update. Fion, my manager, brought us Angry Bird cupcake and a red bird cake on Friday!! All of them were really cute. I nearly don’t have the heart to eat them. So cute!!!

The red bird cake was quite big. I love it very much. Not too sweet as Fion requested for less sugar. Her sister in law made all the cupcakes and the cake by herself. I want to learn how to make them also!!! Not only cute, but yummy as well.

There’s a bat hanging on the window near the pantry. It reminds me of my previous weird food post… *shivers*….

Calvin with my pig cupcake. I couldn’t eat the cupcake all by myself without showing Calvin. So I kept mine in a Tupperware to be shared with Calvin later on. Luckily I didn’t destroyed it’s face during “transportation”. Hehe. I think my pooh is cuter than the pig in the photo *cubit*. Hehe.

Next post will be about the Japanese Grilled dinner at Subang Jaya that I bought from Groupon. Yummy but disappointed. Haihh…….

Tomoe Round 2 & Weird Dinner

Despite trying out quite a number of Japanese Restaurants, Calvin still prefers Unagi Don from Tomoe, Subang Jaya. I have to agree with him as the taste and freshness are at the top quality.

This photograph is not enough to justify how good this thing is. Not to sweet/salty, soft and best of all, even though after it has cool down, there’s totally no stale taste on the fish at all. Yummy, is the only word that Calvin frequently use to describe the Unagi.

My squid with separately ordered rice set. They do not have set meal here. Everything are ala carte. During the first few pieces of squid, the taste was still okay. But towards the middle and end of the dish, I started to feel yucky and too squid-y. Luckily uncle helped me out with the dish while Calvin was too busy enjoying his Unagi.

Overall, I would say the place is a little pricey but the quality of the food is no doubt the best. Fresh and the moderation of their taste. I don’t really like dishes that are too over (salty, sweet, spicy, sour, etc.) For once in a while indulgence, it is definitely worth it.

The other place that me and Calvin “ventured” to last week was this busy stall at the junction opposite Shaw Parade.

The stall is located at the road side. I can’t read Chinese but Calvin told me the menu includes bats, warthog (imagine eating Pumbaa from The Lion King), some kind of tortoise that can be eaten and other …. thing. Since we have parked the car in the complex and I was very hungry at that time, we decided to eat there. The place was quite full and we noticed that most of the customers ordered the coconut chicken. We ordered one, together with soup and curry warthog. The warthog was quite good but a little bit cold. Quite chewy and I still prefer the normal pork. Coconut chicken was not bad either. It is similar to herbal chicken but the soup base is from coconut juice. Even though the food is quite okay (and recommended by local food show), I doubt that I will return to that place again as the thought of bats & tortoise in the steel containers creeps me out. For those who have a brave heart and enjoy such delicacies, do drop by this stall to try out the “special” food. Hehe.

Father’s Day–Round 1 at Elegant Inn

Daddy is not around on Father’s Day weekend, so the celebration was postpone to the following week. Joey showed me a broucher for Elegant Inn, which is nearby my company, on Thursday. I browsed through and the Lobster Promotion caught my attention. I seldom have the chance to enjoy lobster as it is very expensive. Even if I have the chance, the amount of meat very little. I showed my parents the broucher the same night and both gave me the green light to make table reservation. Too bad sis and Brandon koko can’t join as sis is allergic to seafood and she’s currently pregnant!! That means I am going to be the world most awesome aunty soon. Hehe. The promotion is 6 course meal for 3 person at RM333++. Since there were 4 of us (mum, dad, me and Calvin), we added additional 1 set of appetizer, soup and dessert.

There are 2 outlets for this restaurant available in Malaysia. The one we visited is at Menara Hap Seng (behind the Merz showroom) while the other one is at Taman Connaught.

Just like it’s name, the restaurant is decorated elegantly. There are around 4 to 5 private rooms with karaoke facility. I browsed through the menu and their food are quite expensive as they serve mostly abalone, geoduck, shark fin and other expensive seafood. They serve dim sum for breakfast as well.

Our appetizer. Soft shell crab, chilled salmon and lobster with fried white radish cake. I love the chilled salmon and lobster the most (on the spoon). Sweet and sour, very appetizing.

For soup, we can choose between beef soup and shark fin soup. Since dad, mum and Calvin choose shark fin soup, I went for the beef soup. The beef went well with the special chilli paste. Soup was clear, sweet and most important, not oily at all. As for the shark fin soup, it is hidden in the dumpling look alike thing. Besides shark fin, there’s prawn and scallop as well.

For the lobster, we can choose the method of cooking. The restaurant’s specialty is salted chilli padi and cheese baked. Mum choose salted chilli padi as I don’t really like cheese baked. The lobster is very big. The 2 claws are at the side of the plate and Calvin forgot to take a photo of it. The claw is as big and long as my palm. The meat was very sweet and fresh. Yummy yummy…..

The blur photo is actually Hong Kong kailan with preserved vegetable. Green dishes is a must for every chinese meal that we have. Sometimes 2. Hehe.

Chicken claypot rice with black fungus. I don’t really like this but my mum love it. She said this just gave her the idea on her next chicken rice dish. Haihhhh…. Luckily I’m on salad diet currently. Haha.

Snow fungus with pear tong sui and black sesame muachi and peanut paste fried balls. Hehe. I finished the whole bowl of tong sui because this is my favourite tong sui for all time. This is my favourite among the favourite by far as the amount of sweetness is just right for my taste. I skipped the muachi and fried balls as my stomach nearly exploded at that moment. If Calvin didn’t tagged along, I don’t think the 3 of us could finish everything. Especially the lobster. Definitely worth the price.

The non food related photo that Calvin took. He was amazed when I told him the kitchen door operates by sensor like those found at the entrance of shopping mall (when you go near, the doors will open automatically). This is his best shot of the door after several attempts. Hahaha.

Overall, I am very satisfied with the dinner that night. I hope my parents felt the same way too. Round 2 will be this coming Saturday with sis and Brandon koko and shopping as well!! It will be like travelling down memory lane where very Sunday, the whole family will do grocery shopping at Jusco Taman Maluri. Ahhh…. those were those days… Looking forward for Round 2!!!

Father’s Day & Debbie’s Wedding

I have a lot of fun over the weekend, especially on Saturday. I attended Debbie’s Wedding. That was my second time attending a church wedding. Both weddings are totally different experience for me. I was late, hence I missed the part Debbie walking in with his father. Good thing is I won’t have to cry. I don’t know why but everytime I attend a wedding (church, tea ceremony or dinner), I will cry during the grand entrance of the bride and groom. I can feel their happiness and joy. I wonder what will happen during mine. Hehe.

The gorgeous bride was my neighbour in my office for quite some time. We have the same enemy and spy on the same person but she was the brave one who stood up and “sound” that person. Hehe. Initially, she was sitting right behind me and we shifted to the other corner where she sat next to me. Since her table was smaller, we shared a lot of things together. This kind woman even change my water bottle every morning with room temperature water okay!! I missed her so much when she move to Marketing department. Me, Bie and Melissa will go out for lunch every Friday where we bitch about the bitches and bastards around the office. After I left the company, we went into separate ways. Bie, into a blissful and joyful wedding life. Mama Meli, pregnant with a baby boy. Me, working my ass of at my current company and paving the path of my own future. We do e-mail each other once in a while to check on each other but the 3 of us have been so busy with our life lately. I missed the lunch bitching session very much. We can never stop talking and laughing as we exchange gossips. Hehe. Once again, congratulations Bie. I hope you are reading this. You know I love you very super ultra much. Wish you and Joshua a happy and blissful marriage.

Another celebration will be Father’s Day. My Mie and Dee went to Kelantan with friends over the weekend, so I went to celebrate papa Pooh’s day instead. Luckily I have bought Dee a Father’s Day present earlier and glad that he likes it. Looks good on him. Hehe.

Papa Pooh’s day was celebrated at Neway Subang Jaya with Mama Pooh, Sister Pooh and Sister Pooh’s bf. This is my first time singing from 7pm until 2am in the morning. Although not continuous but by 1am, I was exhausted. We sang Mandarin, Cantonese, English and even Malay songs. Can’t blame me for being tired so easily at this age as the wedding and Father’s day fell on the same day. Hehe.

Papa Pooh has a new pen. He can’t stop smiling while admiring the pen. I guess his feelings was exactly same as me when I first hold the pink Gucci (the one that I will never ever own… haihhh). The smile on the face will never disappear. Instead, it will grows wider. Hahaha. The one who bought the gift will be very happy as well as the gift the effort on choosing and purchasing the gift was acknowledged and treasured. Although I can’t have the bag but I will it will always be the love of my life (bag category… haha), till the day I set my eyes on another gorgeous bag. But after one year, it is still way on top of the chart and so far no bag can replace it yet. You might think I am being over reacting over a handbag but everyone have something that they really like and treasure. Could be the SILLY PS3 GAME THAT DON’T HAVE ANYTHING NICE EXCEPT THE FINISHER PART, GUYS WITH TIGHT PANTS AND “YOU CAN’T SEE ME” THINGY GOING ON AND ON AND ON, earrings (my sis), WWE MAGAZINE THAT CAN ONLY BE FOUND AT CERTAIN BOOKSTORE AND THE DATE OF PUBLISH IS NOT FIXED AND I HAVE TO STOP AND WAIT FOR THAT SOMEONE TO GO IN AND CHECK AND SURVEY AND ADMIRE OTHER BOOK, while mine just happen to be handbags. Need not to be branded or expensive, as long as I love the design. But just so happen that each of my handbags is from certain brands. Hehe. I am not greedy. At least one from each brand will do. I won’t mind having more from Gucci as their pink bags design are awesome!! Aihh…. my pink Gucci ahhhh…….

Okay, sorry for the detour. Anyway, Father’s Day celebration with Pooh Papa was fun. I did embarrassed myself by singing out of tune, out of rhythm and most importantly, I was influenced by Shin to stare at the handphone for the pinyin lyrics, except mine was from Google search while hers was from her phone storage where she type the whole song into message/notepad form. Hehe. I will no longer laugh at Shin anymore as I get to sing more Mandarin & Cantonese songs than I used to. Most importantly, I get to sing along with Pooh. Hehe.

This coming weekend will be Dee’s turn. I still have no idea on where to eat. Haihh…. any idea??

A little bit of everywhere

School holidays will end tomorrow and I just realized that my blog was not update for quite some time. A lot have happened for the past few weeks. Here is a summary of some of the “big events”:

I went to Singapore for a short trip to visit my grandfather who has underwent 2 surgeries there. He has his implant removed and a spacer put into the empty space. He is currently still suffering from a bad bacteria infection that he caught on the first operation. I hope that he will start to eat more every meal so that his body will be strong enough to fight off the bacteria.

Wedding plans have moved to the next level where me and Calvin are planning on how our future room will looks like and our honeymoon. We have a lot of ideas from time to time hence our initial Plan A is probably has changed to Plan K now. The date of meeting the sifu and submission of our forms for registration is on end of this month while I’m 8 months away from my wedding. Excited!!! Hehe.

Work is at it’s crazy peak currently. A lot of hospital decided to chase for payment. Hospital A even said “Please settle the payment as we do not have money to pay for the salary of our hospital staffs including doctors”. Haha. Funny…. really funny.

That’s the end of the summary. Luckily I have 2 galz to talk with from time to time. We shared our life principles and I realized we have grown up a lot. Looking forward on the upcoming meet up with them. I need to talk to them face to face desperately.

There will be no food post this time as my weekends are spent either resting at home or completely full of activities with friends and family member. Will blog more about food next time.

Noodle Shack

I have been to Ikea for several times over the month to check out their furniture and also get some ideas on how to decorate my new room. Me and Calvin usually went early to get parking space and avoid the big crowd that usually appear in the afternoon. To save time, we will have our brunch there and Noodle Shack is located between Taiwan Shilin fried food and Pulau Ketam Steamboat. I noticed that the place is always quite full when we passed by. “The food must be good,” was what I told Calvin.

We decided to give it a try.

Our food order for the day. The place’s specialty is pan mee. There are several flavour for the noodle; plain/normal, spinach etc.

We ordered the Traditional Soup and Coriander soup. The traditional soup is very clear and not too salty. Ingredients include black fungus, fried anchovies, fried fuchuk, flat noodle and some green vegetable and meat. The coriander version is mine as I love coriander very much. I ordered it without any hesitation. My noodle was light green in colour but I am not sure if it has coriander taste to it. One thing for you, as you can see from the photo, my bowl is full of coriander love. Even the soup has coriander taste. The most coriander concentrated meal I ever had. Haha. There’s other type of noodle available on the menu like the dried version, dried chilli and curry as well. It may be good/perfect for those who prefer to have a light soupy noddle meal after a tired and exhausting walk from furniture shopping.

The Skewers, Subang Jaya

Read and heard so much about this place. Spotted it on the way to Carrefour shopping the other day. So when I suggested for primary school friends gathering, this place came to my mind as most of them stay nearby that area. I was very surprised that the place was full when we arrived. I thought that the food must be great or the ambience must be good as given it’s location and the time of the day the place was packed with people. We have to wait for an empty table that could fit the 6 of us. If you plan to visit the place, do call and reserve a table, especially when it’s football/soccer night. They have a projector screen at the outdoor seating area for football fans to cheer for their favourite team. In short, I think this place is a superb place for dinner, drinks and chillax; all together under the same roof.

Haihhh…… I have no idea what he is giggling about here, which totally ruined the clearest photo of us by the photographer.

These are mine and Calvin’s primary school friends; Yin Keong and Wei Kin. Yew Koon was late, so he missed the portrait shoot session. We totally forgot to take a group photo after a magic show by one of the restaurant owner. The lady with Yin Keong is, well, obviously his gf la. Who else….. duh~~

The place was decorated with the football-scarf-thingy. One of the owner/partner is Yin Keong’s friend. They have higher stools and tables for those who only need a small space for their beer/drinks while watching the football match.

At last!!! A clear photo of us, after Calvin gave the “photographer” tips on how to hold the camera still. Everybody, say hi to the uncle from the table behind us. He’s in our photo as well!! Haha.

The food that we ordered. The portions are huge!! Luckily me and Calvin shared the grilled prawns, chicken skewers and friend prawns topped with salted egg (last photo). The chicken skewers were really good. Quite juicy and marinated just right. Our meal comes with wedges and green salad as well. The burger is really huge. The portion can be shared by 2 guys or 3 girls. Only Wei Kin managed to finish his sandwich and pilaf rice and half of Yew Koon’s burger. Amazing!! Me and Calvin was struggling with ours even though we distributed some of them out. Even without the 15% discount that we received, both me and Calvin strongly agree that the price of the food is very reasonable with the quality and portion of the food that was served to us.

After dinner, me and Calvin received a lot of suggestions for our honeymoon destinations; from Tiber to US and Maldives. David, Yin Keong’s friend cum owner/partner of the restaurant, arrived at the restaurant and showed us some amazing magic tricks which in the end resulted a steel fork broken into 2. We left early since Wei Kin needs to catch the train back to Taman Connaught. I think the honeymoon destinations topic will be continued very soon in the future by my other friends. Haha.

Mother’s Day at Grand Palace Pavillion

Every year, we will celebrate mum’s birthday and mother’s day together since both day are very near to each other. Sis suggested Grand Palace at Pavillion due to it’s good food and nice ambience. Her wedding was held at the same place as well. For mum’s birthday and mother’s day, sis ordered the set menu with alteration of few dishes.

First dish is always my favourite for any formal chinese dinner. Mostly cold and hot combination. Please accept my apology for the photo quality as we were very hungry that day and all of us can’t wait to stuff our mouth with food. This appetizer consist of baby octopus, some meat wrapped in ham, something fried and vegetable with clam thingy. Haha.

Although there’s no shark fin soup, but the soup has got abalone in it. Clear and yummy. From here we can see longan, chicken feet, abalone and lean meat. I have no idea what is the name of the soup but it’s really good. By the time I finished the soup, I was already full. Haha.

Next dish is the Peking duck. I am proud to declare that Peking Duck is one of my favourite dish at the moment. The crispy skin wrapped with spring onion and cucumber with the sauce are…. well, a good combination. The green vegetable position on the duck is a little bit …. disturbing, don’t you think? Hehe.

Then it’s fish maw, sea cucumber, mushroom and broccoli. I love this dish as it was served piping hot. The sea cucumber just melted in my mouth. Ohhh la la~~

Okay, I totally have no idea what this is. Something like wanton in soup? Or thick gravy? I think I didn’t eat this, hence I have no idea what it is. Haha.

The dish may look ugly but it’s actually quite good. It’s steamed fish with some salted vegetables. The salty level for this dish was just right. As the fish was basically tasteless, the vegetables gave the dish an aromatic fresh flavour to it. This is my first time eating fish cooked this way.

The star of the night…

Mango cheese cake. I love the cake design. On the top are slices of mango and mango ice cream. Although it is hard to tell which is which, but everybody loved the cake. I don’t like cheese cake so I left my portion for the rest to enjoy. Sis said the cake was custom. Lucky mum. Perhaps chocolate cake next time? Hehe.

Group photo. I forgot to take a photograph of kaufu and his family together with mum. We had a great time laughing over dinner that night. We talked about everything under the sun and moon, from my wedding to what to/not to eat during pregnancy. Anyway, the dinner bill came to RM1k, quite okay since we’re dining at Pavillion and the food was really good. They gave us a private room with a tv in it. Those who have nothing to talk about can watch the TV.

Yuzu & Go Sushi

What are the similarities of the above 2 named restaurants? Japanese restaurants, both me and Calvin love and they serve good food

Yuzu is located on the top floor of Suria KLCC, together with Little Penang and Madam Kwan. Me and Calvin wandered around aimlessly looking for a place for lunch. Madam Kwan was our first choice but it was difficult for the both of us to resist the temptation of Japanese food at that time as Madam Kwan was quite full that day.

Our table is near the walkway of the mall. We were separated from the curious passerby by the strings and metal balls which make a beautiful art divider. Together with the glass roof of the mall, both of us enjoyed a beautiful lunch on a peaceful Saturday. Ahh…… that’s life

Calvin’s unagi and tempura set and my teriyaki chicken on hot stone set. Both of our set meals are amazingly good. I may have burnt my chicken as the stone was really hot, but the caramelized sauce made the chicken absolutely yummy. Each of our set comes with salad, chawanmushi, miso soup and fruits. There are other interesting items on the menu like beef wrapper in foil paper, fresh sashimi and sushi. I just love the food presentation, especially the appetizer. Even though we did not order any appetizer, but we managed to sneak peek other customers order. Hehe.

Go Sushi is located at Taman Midah. I noticed the existence of this Japanese Restaurant for a few months but never visit the place before. When I do, I was surprised to know that the chef used to work at U Restaurant, Bangsar. I love his beef teriyaki and salad very much. Oh, and also the only place that you can find white sauce chicken, besides Sakae at Taman Billion (where the owners of both restaurants are brothers).

I ordered the beef teriyaki and Calvin ordered sushi set. The salad is my starting point of being able to consume salad for lunch/dinner. It’s the sauce. Vinaigrette, to be exact. Although the exact ingredients are unknown, I still can’t find any vinaigrette in the market that is as good as this one. Sour, but not over the top. Just right for the tasteless green vegetables. With a nearer location and cheaper price, I will definitely be back at the restaurant again. Weee……… You really should try this restaurant out. They have a experienced waiter who is really friendly and good in recommendation and an experienced Japanese chef from a high end Japanese Restaurant that offers not-the-usual-Japanese-food for you at the affordable price. Seriously, if you stay nearby Taman Midah, you really should check this place out. I. AM. SERIOUS….

Kin Ryu Tei–worst Chawanmushi to date

Calvin’s dad is just as fond of Japanese food as both me and Calvin. Whenever aunty is not available to have dinner with us, we will usually head to the nearest fast food restaurant or Japanese restaurant. He travel to Japan every year so he’s the man when it comes to the difference between Malaysian Japanese food and Japan Japanese food. I an envy to the max

There’s this row of Japanese restaurant at Subang Jaya, just opposite Sime Darby Medical Centre. We have visited a few of them and were very pleased with most of the restaurant. Last weekend, we visited Kin Ryu Tei, hoping for a good meal.

The interior of the restaurant is just like those in Japan where the tables are separated and the sushi bar is full of Japanese comics at the middle. There are a few private rooms at the back for those who would prefer to have a quiet and peaceful dinner. I really can’t stand kids these days. They have the hobby of running around the whole restaurant and screaming on top of their lungs but their parents did nothing. Just sit and continuously stuff their mouth with food and more food. First of all, I feel like slapping their parents for not controlling their kids when in public area. Second, I feel like tying the kids to the chair and put cellophane tape over their mouth. The whole time we were there, the kids never stop running round and round and round the restaurant. Their foot steps together with their non stop screaming/yelling is like a dinner at hell. I don’t hate kids; I adore them very much but only the obedient and nice one. Those out of control and hyper all the time are effective source of migraine for me.

The only thing that I love about the restaurant is the soya sauce dispenser. Super cute. Tempted to steal one home but decided not to as I seldom consume soya sauce anyway. Hehe.

We ordered beef teriyaki set, unagi set and sashimi set to be shared. Seriouly, the food is totally not what I expected from a Japanese restaurant. If it’s those large Japanese fast food chain like Sushi King, I can understand. Even Sushi King’s standard is better than this restaurant.

The only photo that I took for the whole dinner. Everything we had, except the sashimi, were not good at all. The unagi is full of bones and it was cold, hence stale. My beef teriyaki was over cooked, which made it very hard and chewy. The chef did a terrible job at cutting the beef as each beef slice was not totally separated from one another. Luckily the sashimi that uncle ordered was fresh. If they can even go wrong with sashimi, which does not need to be cook, I really have nothing to say. The worst of the worst will be the chawanmushi. Super watery and it breaks instantly after scooping it up gently with the spoon. The taste was quite awful as it’s already in minced tauhu state. My god!!

Overall, the 3 of us are not satisfied at all of the dinner. Plus the irritating running and screaming around the restaurant, we could hardly have a peaceful dinner that night. Haihhh… I’m sorry to say, the restaurant is already in my “No Good” folder, as instructed by Calvin. “No more 2nd time” was the phrase that both Mr Ng and Mr Ng Junior said at the end of the dinner. Hehe.

Random food here and there….

Food has been quite random lately. Went to Ikea to get some idea on how to decorate/arrange my future room. I may be getting the things that I want but I just need to do more survey and look high and low for the perfect furniture and price, of course. Besides future room, I am still on search for the ideal outdoor place of my wedding photos. Since it will be on September, it would be better if I have an indoor which is outdoor as a backup just in case it rains. Oh well, search and survey are a big part of wedding planning eh? Luckily, I have Shin to give me all the tips from time to time. She’s like my wedding consultant. Haha.

Back to food, which I have to tone down a lot for the wedding. I’m not complaining as I know the final outcome will be good. I received comments of my slightly tiny bit slim down body. Hahaha. Anyway, food has been very random lately. Rarely dine in at restaurant or café. Have been visiting more food court and food stalls most of the time. More choices of food to choose from and both me and Calvin can enjoy different cuisine at the same time.

One of the random outing will be at Mid Valley food court where Calvin wanted to eat Pepper Lunch.

I ordered Thai food from the neighboring stall, which came with seafood tom yum, omellete and belacan kangkung for a very cheap price, which I forgot. Haha. The tom yum soup was really good. Not too sour or spicy, suitable for Calvin. There’s an Express Pepper Lunch at the food court but I think the service is slower than the restaurant itself. Calvin waited for like 15 minutes for the so-called “express” food. Luckily it was worth the wait as when he mixed the rice, corn and beef together with the sauce, the combination was really good. I can foresee another round of meal at Pepper Lunch very time soon as my colleagues suggested to have lunch at Pavillion’s Pepper Lunch last week but was postponed as I wanted to have Korean Food.

There’s a pan mee stall at SS19 Subang Jaya that is quite famous and always crowded in the morning, even on normal working days. When me and Calvin was on leave last week, we went there for breakfast at around 10am and was told that we have to wait for 30 minutes. It was on a Tuesday morning, by the way.

They only have 1 type of noodle which is pull by hand, so it will be in a squarish shape. I ordered the dried one as I was extremely hungry that day while Calvin had the soup one. I preferred the soup one as it’s not too oily and the soup was quite clear and not too salty. The noodle went very well with the special spicy chilli paste. The long and yummy breakfast was accompanied by coconut to cool the heat and wash away the spiciness of the chilli. Yummy yummy

The last food outing will be from Starbucks Coffee. Calvin need to work for an interesting workshop yesterday at Times Square. Since it was early and we have yet to eat our breakfast, we headed to Starbucks Coffee as I still have RM20 vouchers which I have yet to use. For breakfast that day, we paid around RM6 in cash. Both of use shared the egg mayo sandwich with English Breakfast and Hot Chocolate. I am having gum problem which makes it difficult for me to chew my food properly without experiencing sharp pain. All I can eat for the past days are soft food and I have to avoid meat. But I managed to have a delicious Pandan Jaya Bak Kut Teh for dinner yesterday.

Bangkok Town

Bangkok Town is a newly opened Thai Restaurant at Taman Muda. since my parents, especially dad, don’t really like Thai food but I absolutely adore the cuisine, I can only try the place out with Calvin. When I reached home one day and mum told me that she won’t be cooking dinner, I suggested this Thai restaurant to Calvin for dinner. A superb idea indeed as it is located very near to my house.

I can only blog about this restaurant today as I forgot the name of the restaurant. I passed by the restaurant just now and quickly pay half of my attention on the name of the restaurant (the other half on the road, of course).

A simple dinner for the both of us. First dish is Bangkok Chicken. Quite nice, I should say. A little spicy but it goes very well with white rice. Belacan kangkong is one of my favourite vegetable of all time. A Thai meal will not be complete without tom yum gung. We ordered seafood tom yum and the soup was amazingly good. I love my tom yum soup cook from scratch and this is exactly how the soup was prepared. Even Calvin love the soup as it was not too spicy, suitable for the both of us.

I will be back for the Thai style steamed fish. Good thing about the restaurant that it’s air conditioned; even though we are eating spicy food served piping hot, we are still in a cooling comfortable environment. Thumbs up for the invention of air conditioner. Hehe.

New York New York Deli

Watched Fast & Furious 5 with Calvin last week. Awesome, is the only word that can describe the movie. After the movie, we walk around searching for food. I recalled Wai Leng and Pui See strongly recommend New York New York Deli for nice food in 1U. I heard about this place previously but forgot about it as it is located at the place that I will never pass by whenever I go shopping/movie at 1U. Since we have tried nearly 90% of the food there, we decided to go New York New York Deli over Coffee Bean and Delicious.

Their menu reminds me the perfect little black dress that I can’t find. There’s this design of black dress that I have seen on numerous people but I can’t seem to find any boutiques that sell the dress. Haihzzz……. Anyway, there are quite a lot to choose from their menu. They have Chocolate drinks, pizza, pasta, steaks and others. They even serve breakfast the whole day.

The restaurant is decorated with posters of New York city view. On the wall are boxes of Tobasco sauce. One thing good about the restaurant is the smile on each and ever waiter and waitress. They are super friendly and whenever their eyes meet yours, it will be accompanied by a friendly smile. I have never been serve by so many friendly waiters at the same restaurant.

Our light food for the day. I am still on diet for my wedding, which has like around 1 year to go. But I’m getting used to eating salad everyday that it has become part of my life. I have one meal of salad each day (lunch or dinner) and I cut down on rice and meat. Calvin did his part as well by cutting down on rice. I don’t expect him to go on salad-mania with me though. He needs all the energy from food for his creative thinking. Hehe. So the Caesar's Salad is for me while the American Breakfast is for him. I ordered the seafood chowder with clams as my drink while the hot chocolate with marshmallow is for Calvin. The seafood chowder I had was extremely super thick. I love it very much as when the soup was left untouched for 1 minute, a thicker layer of soup is formed on the top. I love that part very much. Hehe. But a bit salty though. The amount of small clams given was crazy!! The salad that I had was quite good and I love the hard boiled egg at the side. Yummy yummy. Calvin’s American breakfast would be better if served with baked beans as it is quite dry eaten just like that. Good thing they give him honey, but still Calvin would prefer to have the whole thing with baked beans. Hehe.

Definitely will be back for other main course, especially pizzas.

Will update about the only the worst Japanese cuisine I ever had, even the steamed egg is yucky. I am serious!!!

Da Sa Rang Korean Restaurant

The lack of update was due to plenty of happenings around me. Shin’s wedding, my Melaka trip with a group of fun friends and me resuming to work after all those happening with much to do and much more to learn. I have this tower of claims at work that I demolished very hard but Joey always re-build it faster than me. I will win this time!!!!

Finally visited the Korean restaurant that I wanted to go for our Valentine’s Dinner but was sick. Da Sa Rang is located just above McD at Subang Jaya (behind Starbucks café that is near to Taylor and Inti Colleage)

Just like the typical Korean restaurant, we have to sit on the floor but there’s a big hole/compartment under the table for us to put our leg. So you can either fold your leg in or sit normally as if you are sitting on a chair.

Lucky me with the pink cutleries cover. I have this thing with Korean style chopstick because they are really slim and heavy, I have a difficult time actually holding them up to pick up a food item. I can be seen struggling with the chopsticks first few minutes of the meal. Haha.

One thing good about Korean food is they have unlimited refill of side dishes and each Korean restaurant have their own selection of side dishes. The only thing that is the same will be kimchi, which both of us don’t like. We returned it back to the waiter as soon as it arrived our table and requested for something else like green vegetable. I love the salad very much, mainly due to the sour dressing. Sour seems to be my best friend during my diet period.

Da Sa Rang has a variety of set menu that you can choose from, ranging from RM 40 to RM 300 (if I’m not mistaken). Both of us ordered the pork and marinated chicken set. The pork was definitely better than the chicken. Maybe we don’t like the sauce for the chicken. The portion is just right for the both of us.

What could be more a suitable drink after a hot charcoal grilled meal than ice watermelon juice?? Our set comes with two glass of these cooling drinks.

Food was okay, worth the second visit since it’s so near Calvin’s place. Hehe. I am still looking for a chance to ask Jess out for Korean dinner as she has a few recommendation of good Korean food in PJ and Sri Hartamas. Can’t wait!!!

As for my wedding, well, nothing can be done at the moment except to wait for the day to arrive. Haha. Too early for the registration date booking. Pre wedding photographs details discussion with the bridal shop is too early either. So both of us practically just sit and wait and sit and wait and sit and wait. Who wants to join us??

CNY Purple Cane dinner

Yes, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the title. The only thing that’s wrong will be me. I totally forgot about the dinner I had at Purple Cane during Chinese New Yea 2011. It was also the day that I choose something special and pretty for myself. Hehe.

I went to Purple Cane few years back with my sister. The one that I went to is near Chinatown. Sis told me that it’s one of her favourite hang out place with friends during secondary school. I know why because it’s air conditioned and quiet there. Perfect place to talk, in Chinese way as they serve different types of chinese tea. Over the years, I forgot about this place as I rarely go Chinatown area. I was not even aware that there’s an outlet at The Gardens.

It is located at lower ground, near the Cold Storage supermarket. The restaurant is decorated nicely, mainly with teapots and cups/mugs. Wooden chairs and tables in different shapes and colour at every corner and section of the table. I felt like dining in those restaurant from the TVB old movies. Haha.

The lady in the menu actually reminds me of Olive, Popeye’s girlfriend. Haha.

Chinese New Year dinner will never be complete without yee sang as appetizer. The yee sang was actually quite good, with pear. This year, all the yee sang that I had during Chinese New Year have pear in them. I guess to give some sweet and crunchy flavour to the dish, which is a good idea. Hehe.

Our dishes for the night. We did not order the set meal because not we don’t really the dishes in the set. So each of us order one dish. The combination turned out to be quite good. They added some tea leaves into a few dishes like the prawn. Seriously, I can’t really taste the tea leaves or any tea flavour from the dishes. Maybe that’s because I didn’t eat much at I ate a lot of yee sang at the first place. Hehe. But I managed to taste all of the dishes and all of them are actually quite good. Light and not too salty.

This teapot contains … nope, not tea. But soup!! They have a few choices of soup to choose from. I totally forgot that I ordered that night. All I can remember that the soup was quite good as well. Light and not oily at all. Love the way they serve the soup as the soup was still hot even though I drank it after the meal. Brilliant!!

Overall, I am very satisfied with the dinner that night. Everything was just light and yummy. After dinner, we went to Delicious for drinks and dessert and more talking.

Trip to Delicious will not be complete without my favourite Pavlova. But still, the one that I had in Australia is still the best of the best. I miss my aunty’s pavlova very much…

Ajisen Ramen

After so many times walking by this restaurant, finally gave Ajisen Ramen a try for brunch over the weekend. Calvin has been here a few times with his sister but this is my first time. I am not a big fan of ramen, I don’t know why. Maybe I can’t slurp the noodle up like the Japanese do to show that the noodle is good. I can only put them on the spoon and eat from there. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the noodle but I just don’t know how to slurp and I don’t want to. It’s so not our culture, at least my family’s culture. Mom would scold us for eating like that. Have to be polite and graceful all the time, even when eating noodle.

Their cute logo which reminds me of Chun Li from Street Fighters.

The shop was closed down previously for renovation. Since I have never been there before, I couldn’t tell what is the difference before and after renovation.

From the menu, they have ramen, bento and other Japanese food. Mostly in ala carte style. I was having this painful gum problem so I could not chew properly without the stinging pain on my gum. I totally lost appetite on food for a few days that that period of time.

So I suggested to order one portion of food to be shared. Calvin must be very hungry that day (as usual.. he’s always hungry.. hehe) because he ordered additional unagi sushi. I guess he will never let go a chance to eat unagi at any Japanese restaurant that he visits. N.E.V.E.R!!! Anyway, the chicken ramen turns out to be so so but the unagi sushi was very cold. Definitely not my type of sushi. To be fair, I will be back again to try their best seller ramen before banning them forever (as in giving them a place in my “No Good” photo folder).

Wedding update: The date has been set but I am still very nervous for the upcoming dinner between our parents. I wonder what will happen that night. Just hope that everything will be alright at the end of the dinner and everyone is happy and I can be the a beautiful bride. Thank you god….

Random food

I heard so much about this famous stall at Petaling Street that sells porridge. Their seats are just infront of the Hong Leong Bank atm machine entrance, directly behind the famous Air Mata Kucing. I suggested to have brunch there when me and Calvin went to Loh Tit Pat to submit our chinese date of birth to get the auspicious date for our wedding. Since it was early, we decided to find the place. From what I remember, it is somewhere nearby the famous air mata kucing stall. So we went directly to the stall and just look around. We notice a few tables at the back of the stalls. And that is how we found the place.

We ordered fish and pork porridge with yau char kueh. The fish was served in thin slices, still raw. But once mixed together with the piping hot porridge, it will be cooked. The pork porridge is quite nice too. But none of us finish the whole bowl of porridge on our own. I bought half Sei Ngan Chai duck to eat with the porridge. The duck is still very yummy. We ate a few pieces and brought home the rest for his parents. They love it very much too and finished the rest of the duck as supper the same night. Hehe.

Other than that, I had dinner with Shen Yin, Gab and Nick at Pavillion on Friday night after work. We went around Pavillion to look for a place to eat and also celebrate my proposal. Finally settled with this German restaurant which serves beer and pork dishes. Perfect for me. Hehe.

Our dinner for the night. Pork knuckle, pork pizza, rosti and pork sausages. We managed to finish everything. The food was quite good, would be better if consume while they are still hot. Even though that was the second time that we hung out, but we never ran out of conversation topics. Looking forward for the next dinner with them.

Pink Sage–3rd visit :)

I should have blog this earlier but I have been too busy doing survey. From hens night, belt to wedding venue. Oh, hens night was on last week. Very fun, at least for me. I have never seen Shin doing so many things in one night. Haha.

Pink Sage gathering with the girls is one day before my proposal. Everyone who attended the gathering knew about Calvin’s proposal on the next day, except me. Their suggestion to go look for a dress at Sunway Pyramid the next day and sing karoake together was very well suggested to me. Without hesitation, I said yes. Haha. Anyway, let’s focus on Pink Sage shall we? This is my 2nd visit at their new outlet. It was a brunch gathering for us. And this is what we have for brunch…

This is us, very engaged in discussion. I think at this point we were talking about dress issue. Haha. Very serious topic, you know. Check out everyone’s serious look. We are very serious people okay. No laughing and smiling allowed. At all. Haha. Oppss…

Our food for the day. Trip to Pink Sage will not be complete without eating their stack and greasy breakfast. I ordered a salad for myself while Calvin ordered a Stacked Breakfast for himself. Still as yummy as usual. Hehe. Others tried on carbonara, banana pancakes and cake. It was a fun brunch and gathering is always something that I always look forward to. And Pink Sage is just the place for a lazy afternoon brunch girls gathering, full of gossips and nonsense. Haha.

Bangkok Day 3 & 4

Day 3 in Bangkok started early for me and Calvin too. We went out early to have some breakfast because I was very hungry. Found this stall that sells porridge but a lot of customer lining up in front of the stall. So both of us bought one bowl of pork porridge with half boiled egg.

Ignore the dreamy effect. Camera too cold that morning. Haha. Anyway, the porridge is really good. I love the pork balls. Haha.

After breakfast, we headed back to hotel and meet up with the girls. We have decided to go floating market that day. The driver send us to this “jetty” where we can take the boat to the market.

We have to pay around 800baht per person for the boat ride to the floating market. 800 baht for 1 hour, I think. But then we only spent like 20 minutes in the market while the rest are at other place. And we found out that cars can go into the market itself. Seriously, I did not expect the floating market to be in such way.

There are houses along the way to the market. Instead of cars, they have boats just in front of their house as their mode of transport. I can’t imagine my mum taking a motor boat to the market to buy noodle for me as my breakfast. Haha.

These are the stalls along the way that sell souvenier. They are not cheap at all. We girls are too focus on buying clothes for this trip that we did not buy any souveniers for the others. Oh well, they will understand. Hehe.

Before going to the market, we have to get down at this coconut sugar farm for a visit.

This is the place where the process coconut into sugar and make delicacies out of it. My favourite will be the peanut biscuit. Really good. I bought one small box for my dad and my colleagues. Need to save luggage space for my new clothes. Hehe.

This is the floating market. More like crowded boat market. We missed out a lot of food in the market as the driver won’t stop for us to get food. I did not eat at all. I’m worried that I will get boat sick if my stomach is too full. I already had pork porridge earlier that day. Seriously, I would rather hire a taxi that would take me directly into the market so that I can walk on my one and stop at any stall to eat. The boat trip totally not worth it and very expensive. Would be better if the driver actually stop at the food stalls to let Wai Leng they all get some food. Instead, the driver maneuver around the market in a hurry. Haihhhhh……

Before sending us back to the “jetty”, the driver send us to the temple. We wanted to stay at the temple a little bit longer so that get back at the driver so being so impatient but then the temple is not big. We finished walking around the temple in less than 5 minutes. In the temple, the monk gave us gold stickers to stick on the buddha statue.

After that, we went back to the “jetty” and headed back to Platinum mall for more shopping. Hehe.

Before that, we went to McD and I finally tried their pork burger.

Only in Thailand you can find Ronald McDonald greeting you in such way.

The price of McValue Meal in Thailand is nearly the same in KL after conversion. But the Samurai Pork Burger is very good. Even their chilli sauce is good. It’s something like our Thai chilli sauce but 10 times better. Yummy yummy. Me want more. Hehe.

After a delicious lunch, we head to Platinum Mall for more shopping. Around 6pm, we went to the stalls behind Platinum Mall for dinner.

Check out the stall’s name. Porn Sea Food. Hahahahaha.

We ordered the salt grilled fish, pork omelet, vegetable and tom yum soup. The fish was quite good. It was the first time for Pui See and Wai Leng. I should bring them to the Hulu Langat Thai food since they love the fish so much. Pork omelet was good, but my mum’s pork omelet is still the best of the best!!! After dinner, we went to the 4 face Buddha, which is just around the corner, for some praying.

The shrine is just in front of Centerpoint. There are quite a number of locals who were there to pray. Some even placed fresh roses on in front of the shrine as offering to the god.

From there, we walked to Siam Square again for more shopping. I wanted to go back to the same street as there are more feminine clothes for me to choose from. Wai Leng and Pui See went back to the hotel as they have made bookings for massage earlier. Calvin and I continue to walk around the place.

We found a place to sit and have some cooling refreshment in a shopping mall.

There are a lot of ice desserts to choose from and we choose banana flavour. I love it very much. Not too sweet, just nice. Plus, the ice shavings are very milky, went very well with the fresh fruit. Just perfect for a hot day/night.

After a little bit more shopping, we headed back to our hotel to pack our luggage as we will be leaving the next day.

Our purchase for the whole trip. Although not much but I’m very satisfied with it. I bought quite a number of sailor style clothing this trip. Some for work and some for casual wear. Calvin bought like 9 to 10 shirts for himself cause it's very cheap. Plus, the designs are very nice too.

Our supper for the night. Wan tan noodle (Wai Leng and Pui See had one packet the night before and they said very very nice), banana pancakes, pineapple and honeydew with mandarin orange juice. The pancakes that we had that night was very super uber good. Although full, both of us finished the whole thing. Really yummy. Ahh….. stop talking about the pancakes. My stomach just growled.

The next morning, me and Calvin went to Chatuchak as the tuk tuk driver wanted only 20baht. So both of us went there to check out the biggest market in Bangkok.

My photos did not justify how big the market is okay. We spent 3 hours just walking 2 rows of shop. 2 FREAKING ROWS!!! Of course we went in certain shops to check out the clothes but still, 2 rows only okay. We did not manage to visit the pets section. Another good reason to go Bangkok again….. to visit Chatuchak weekend market. They are a lot of shops selling clothes. Some are very cheap but some are quite expensive to be sold in a market. I found one shirt selling for 1500baht. A SHIRT!!!

This is the place that we had breakfast. Wan tan noodle again. Not on purpose but we stumbled upon this tiny shop and the both of us are super hungry at that time. So we just quickly eat our breakfast so that we can walk around the market as soon as possible. Simple, good and dirt cheap. Oh… and not sweet. Hahaha.

To cut the story short, we went back to the hotel and was late because of the traffic jam. Seriously, to avoid jam, better take the train. Way faster and more convenient. Plus, you won’t have to deal with the tuk tuk or taxi driver. Some of them are very terrible and rude. Haihhh….. Anyway, luckily we have planned to take the train back to the airport to avoid the traffic jam.

We had Burger King at the airport and both me and Calvin finished off our Thai baht there. Not on purpose but the amount left was just right for one last meal in Thailand. Haha.

We have already booked meals on the flight home and a disappointment again.

Bangkok Day 2

Bangkok Day 2 started a little bit early for me and Calvin as we woke up early. Plan for the day was shopping, shopping and eating. Calvin and me woke up early that day. We walked around our hotel area to explore what shops and food that is available.

We found this place that has halal food, which is suitable for Deane. Just next to the Muslim stall, there are other food stalls selling rice and noodle. So we decided to have our breakfast there.

Me and Calvin’s breakfast for the day. Calvin still not giving hope on rice yet, ordered chicken rice. I ordered seafood noodle. Mine was superb as the soup was really clear and the taste just right. There’s a big bowl of raw taugeh for those who prefer additional taugeh. As for Calvin’s rice, he said it was very dry as there’s no gravy or whatsoever at all. Apparently, Calvin was supposed to add the chilli sauce and other things given and mix everything well. That’s according to Vince and Wai Leng who went back the same stall and tried it out. The knew the way to eat it when they observed how the locals eat it. They said the rice was very nice eaten that way. Just another reason to go back to Bangkok for another trip. For the … er… chicken rice. Hehe.

As for my noodle, these are the condiments that I can mix into my bowl. Sugar, chilli paste, green chilli and chilli flakes (I think). Yes, the left corner is indeed a container of sugar. I guess they mix it together with the chilli paste so that it will not be too spicy. But I just love my noodle as it is.

Food for the rest. Beef noodle, siew yoke rice and tom yum noodle. Vince’s siew yoke rice was really good but Pui See’s tom yum noodle was a disappointment. Not spicy but just a little bit sour only. Totally different from the tom yum that we had in Malaysia. But then again, the one that we have here might be modified to suit our taste.

We head back hotel to hop on the free tuk tuk ride to the nearest train station. We wanted to go Chinatown. We were dropped off just nearby the train station and were asked to walk instead.

Once we got off the tuk tuk, a driver approached us and offered to send us there for 60 to 80 baht. Since he is driving Avanza, which could fit all 6 of us, we agreed to his service. When we started the journey, the driver asked for our help to get free petrol. He will send us to a jewellery shop. All we have to do is just go down the shop to look look and see see. It is okay if we did not buy anything. Initially we don’t want to go but he begged for us to help him. Since we have some time to spare, we agreed to go along. If you do not want to do so, just tell the driver that you have been there the day before and they will not bring you there as they will not get free petrol for repeated customers. Just make sure that when the driver ask you how many days have you stay in Bangkok, your answer should be like 2 or 3 days. Hehe.

After the jewellery shop visit, the driver sent us to Chinatown.

There’s not much to see in Chinatown as we just walked from one street till the end, hop on a tuk tuk and head to MBK mall. But we saw this shop that have food items mould by sesame street. I guess is for praying purposes as we can’t really put meat on the altar. These moulds comes in chicken, octopus and even pig head. Haha. We passed by one shop selling bird nests and shark fin. We went in for a bowl of bird nests or two.

Here are the samples of bird nest that they have. It range from 100 baht to 1500 baht. We ordered 3 bowls to be shared in couples.

Our bird nest. Quite yummy, for me. Not too sweet. Nothing special other than cheap. We can add preserved lotus seeds, half boiled egg and extra honey to our bird nest. I added the half boiled egg into our bird nest and it was ultra smooth. Quite yummy!! But I can’t accept the preserved lotus seeds as it was too sweet.

Besides bird nest, this shop sells shark fin as well. All those dried bird nest and shark fin are for sale. They are quite used to selling items to tourist as they have wrappers for Wai Leng and Pui See’s bird nest, even though we did not request for them. They wrapped the bottles nicely so that it will not break easily. When we were nearly done, they asked us if we would like to try shark fin.

the shark fin arrived. I added a lot of coriander leaves into mine and the taste was amazing. Maybe a little too much ajinomoto as after the bowl, I felt very thristy.

After that, we headed to the end of the road and decided to leave Chinatown since there is not much for us to do and see except chinese herbs. We took tuk tuk to MBK mall. There’s nothing much that is suitable for me. Just managed to buy a clutch and bargain like mad for that. Haha. Us girls went for pedicure and Pui See did pedicure as well. Main purpose is actually to removed some of the hard skin on our foot. I am not a big fan of massage, manicure and pedicure. People who know me should notice that I have very small and square nails. This is also one of the issue for my wedding photo shoot that I have yet to find the perfect solution. Anyway, I decided to do the pedicure just so that I could get the removal of dead skin on my foot.

The final result. No prizes for guessing which is who, especially mine. Very obvious. Haha. After MBK, we headed to Siam Square for dinner at Som Tam. I found this place from blogs while doing Bangkok research.

We ordered fried chicken, fish, mango salad, minced chicken meat with basil leaf. The food was quite good but the portion is very small. They only have one size for certain dishes. The steamed fish may look very plain but it went well with the sauce. We were lucky that we went early that day. Once we stepped out of the restaurant, there was a long queue outside the restaurant. After dinner, we went to Siam Square’s night market for more shopping. The clothes there are more feminine and kind of Korean/Japan style. Quite cheap but if compared to Platinum Mall, Siam Square is slightly expensive but more feminine. Platinum Mall is more towards casual wear like shorts, skirts and shirts.

Bangkok

I finally received my photographs from Bangkok trip. Hehe. Went to Bangkok with Wai Leng and Pui See with our respective partner on the end of February. It can be considered as shopping trip cause all we did everyday while we were in Bangkok is just shop, shop, shop and shop. We will definitely be back again for shopping but then much wiser after the first trip.

We booked our flight like 8 months prior to the trip. Our flight was like 9am in the morning. We reached LCCT early and had breakfast at Old Town.

Check out our exciting look. Haha. They did not pretend or pose in such way for me to take a photo. All of them were very tired as they slept very late the night before. Pui See and Deane did not sleep at all!! Haha.

That’s our ride to Bangkok. All of us were sleeping the whole journey to Bangkok. We woke up when they announced that we will be landing in Thailand airport soon. Hehe.

The airport is really big. When we got off the plane, we have to take a bus to reach the main terminal. Much more bigger than KLIA. I saw a sign there about “Airport of Smiles” but the staffs there did not smile to us at all. We have a hard time understanding their English the whole trip. They have flight information on Thai language as well. We have a hard time locating the custom counter as the sign only point out the way to transfer flight and others but none pointing towards the custom area. When we finally reached the custom, the queue on each counter was very long. We spent nearly 1 hour at the custom area. The officers did not smile or greet us. They only concentrate on our passport and only look at us from their camera with a camera attached to it. Oh well…

These were our starting luggage at the beginning of the trip. All were light as we did not bring much clothing as we plan to bring a bag stuffed with clothes back to KL. Hehe.

After claiming out luggage, we went to the basement where the train station is. I guess the train is the most convenient transport around Bangkok, plus we won’t get cheated and the driver cannot ask us to get off in the middle of the road. Me and Calvin experienced this before where the tuk tuk driver refused to send us to our hotel and ask us to get off the tuk tuk in the middle of the road. Being a foreigner, we do not want to argue. We paid him and quickly run back to our hotel as we need to catch a flight back to KL. This happened on our last day. Even Wai Leng and Vince is a victim of such tuk tuk driver. In my opinion, that is a very bad impression on Thailand’s tourism industry. Oh well…. we can’t do anything right?

Anyway, travelling by train is much cheaper compared to taxi. If you take a taxi, be prepared to be stuck in a jam. The traffic there is very crazy. Traffic jam all day long. Condition is at it’s worst during the weekend. Luckily, our hotel is quite near to a train station from airport. So we took the train straight to the hotel. If I’m not mistaken, it cost around 35 baht per person. As for the tuk tuk, the price is usually much cheaper in the morning. The cost of taking a tuk tuk to the platinum mall, chatuchak market or nearby train station is around 20 baht in the morning but around 100 baht at night. So if you want to go around at night, might as well take the taxi cause the price is more or less the same. But always bargain the price with the tuk tuk and taxi driver. But if I have the choice, I would rather take the train. Seriously, me and Calvin were lucky that I could recognise the place and knew the way back to the hotel. Or else, we would be totally lost when the tuk tuk driver turn off the engine and ask us get off the tuk tuk. Damn angry at that time. But I know we were not far from our hotel, so still okay.

One more thing, if you take taxi or tuk tuk in the morning or afternoon, the driver might ask you for help to get free petrol for him. He will take you to a big jewelry shop. Every time the driver brings tourist to visit the shop, he will get free 5 liters worth of petrol. Which is really a lot if one day he could bring like 5 or 6 batch of tourists there. At first, we don’t mind but then on the last day, the tuk tuk driver begged us for help. We have no choice but waste 30 minutes looking at jewelries. Really a waste of time. So if you are in a hurry and don’t wish to go to the jewelry shop, just tell the driver that you have been there previously. They will not bring you there again because the people from the shop will recognize us and the driver will not get free petrol. It is not that we are cruel or bad people but seriously, it’s really a waste of time. But if you have time to spare like us, you can help the driver out for the free petrol.

The train ride was quite comfortable. The coach is very spacious, which is good as most passenger has a luggage with them. We reached Ratcharaprop station in like 30 minutes. Really worth the money and time saving to travel from and to airport. I’m sure you do not want to be stuck in a jam and miss your flight back home right? Hehe.

We stayed at Citin Pratunam, which is really awesome. There are a lot of food stalls just outside our hotel and it’s within walking distance to Platinum Mall. Awesome!!

The room is bigger than our Hong Kong hotel room. Oh, it has my favourite shower thingy as well. Happy happy. Hehe. The room is very clean, way better than my expectation. Wai Leng’s room is slightly bigger than mine because there’s two bed in the room. After settling down, we head straight to Platinum Mall. Since it was already late afternoon, we decided to grab some food before starting to shop. There is one food court on the 6th floor of the mall.

We have to purchase a card with stored value in it for us to purchase food. Whatever left in the card can be refunded at the counter.

This is the place for us to take our cutleries. At the end of the compartment is a bowl of hot water for us to wash our forks and spoons in it. Great for those who are hygienic when it comes to food. I guess food courts around KL should have such facilities as well to reduce the amount of food poisoning cases around town.

Our food for the day. I ordered the duck noodle, which was really good. The soup was very clear. I noticed that their dishes does not have much oil in them, which explains all those skinny girls walking around the mall. It is very hard to find a fat girl in the shopping mall. I’m serious!! Calvin was very hungry so he ordered the rice with pork, which is not nice. But he still finished the whole plate of rice all by himself. The power of hunger. Hehe. Pui see bought a bowl of bird nest and a plate of Thai char kueh teow. When we’re done with lunch, we start our shopping spree. We were disappointed when the shops started to close one by one at around 7pm. We decided to walk back to our hotel and purchase dinner along the way from the food stalls.

Our dinner for the night!!! First stop was actually the pork satay, which was really yummy. Each of us had like 1 to 2 sticks. We purchased chicken wings to be eaten in our hotel room. After that, we bought fried chicken, fried chicken skin, padthai and others for dinner. In general, the food in Thailand are quite cheap but if you don’t like sweet food like us, please ask the vendor/chef not to put sugar into your food. Even our padthai, a.k.a. Thai char kueh teow, was sweet because the guy put sugar in it. Kind of yucky after a few mouthful of it. I guess the winner of the night will be the pork satay and some fried keropok ikan. Others were only so so.

Deane bought like more than 10 t shirt and the designs are really nice. Plus they are really cheap since he bought like a lot. I guess one is around 80baht? The clothes on the second photograph are all mine. I bought 3 skirts for work, one dress and 3 tops. I really love the sailor/sea style at the moment. I always come out from the toilet with my new clothes and saying “I look like a sailor”. Haha. They are quite cheap too. The skirt is like 200 baht and they come in sizes. Although you cannot try them but the sale assistant will measure your waist and butt area and they will tell you which size that you can fit. The blouse is like 150 baht each and the dress is around 200 baht. Really cheap!!

Valentine’s 2011

Valentine’s Day this year created such havoc over the country that on the next day of Valentine’s Day, I read from newspaper that there were officers who raid restaurants. I guess everybody know what is the issue that I am talking about.

My body created a surprise havoc for me and Calvin too. Let met start with the initial plan for Valentine’s Day. I wanted Korean food as I have been longing to try the Korean restaurant near his house for quite some time. We had western food last year, so this year I opted other cuisine. When I woke up that morning, I was having a flu and sore throat at the same time. The sore throat was so bad that I felt feverish the whole day working in the office. Since the day after Valentine’s day is a public holiday, the both of us did not apply leave as we only wanted to have dinner for Valentine’s Day this year. There was no nice movie at that time and I do not want to go shopping as I wanted to do that in Bangkok (which I have yet to blog because Calvin…. a.k.a. my future husband…. hehe…. has yet to give me the photographs and Gossip Girls. Ishh…). After work, I took the train to Kelana Jaya and he picked me up from there. I requested for no flowers this year as it is always overly priced and not worth it. Anyway, we were heading to the Korean restaurant and Calvin kept persuading me not to have the Korean food since I was sick. Initially, I stood still on my initial decision for Korean food but eventually gave in when he gave me a lot of reasons and also promised to take me there for a meal anytime soon (which yet, up to now, still no sign of the Korean food… ahem….). Since Empire Shopping Centre is nearby his house, we went there for dinner. Even though I did not get Korean food, apparently Japanese food would be a healthier choice, konon la. Hehe. We dine in at Pasta Zanmai as they have dishes that combine Calvin’s favourites into one dish.

The waiter took a photograph of us with his camera for some event thingy. This was taken by the waiter by my camera. I am looking very red at the nose and eyes area thanks to the flu. Last year Valentine’s, I had eye infection which causes one side of my eyes to be swollen. It is very obvious from the photograph that I look like a Merz (big small eye). This year Valentine’s was slightly better. No swollen but only red. Hehe.

I ordered the mini set meal for myself as I was very hungry and Calvin ordered unagi with half boiled egg. My mini set meal consists of spaghetti with chicken teriyaki and scallop pizza. The spaghetti and rice was so-so but I love the pizza uber much. I even ordered additional one to be taken away so that I can eat them for supper. Whenever I’m having flu, I will be either super hungry or no appetite to eat at all. That night, I was feeling super hungry. Haha.

After dinner, we walked around and went into the supermarket, my favourite shopping place. It eventually become Calvin’s shopping place as well after so many random trips to supermarket with me. He even….

smile like Doraemon. Hahahaha.

Oh well, I have to continue my research for Shin’s wedding and mine. Busy wedding bee is my new name.

Robot Sushi

Robot Sushi is located at Sunway Pyramid entrance that is facing Sunway Lagoon’s main entrance. We passed by that place a few times previously. Sadly to say, there was nobody at the reception counter and no waiter/waitress at the door to greet us. So we walked away a few times. Furthermore, we could not see any customers in the restaurant, so we concluded that this place might not be good. One day, we decided to give this place one last chance. Still, there was nobody at the entrance when we arrived. When we were about to turn and leave, a waiter came out to greet us. So we asked for a table for two.

The restaurant has 2 bars. Sushi bar and drinks bar. This may be a good place to watch football as they have televisions all around the restaurant.

The menu. Kind of heavy as they have metal element. There’s actually not much robotic food in the menu. They still serve sashimi, sushi and temaki instead of screw, nuts and aluminum. Hehe.

Our food for the day. Calvin’s unagi rice, my udon with tempura and salmon sushi. The food was not bad but calvin’s unagi was quite cold when served. Quite good and no stale taste from the fish. My udon and tempura on the other hand was served piping hot. Yummy!! A light meal since I was not hungry that day.

Overall, the food was quite good. If you need a quiet place to have dinner and drinks with your friends, this is the place to be. You can sit back and talk the whole night away without yelling to your friends to be heard because currently, their business is kind of slow.
